Don't know where your getting this info that ALL providers are no longer using SD equipment, thats NOT true ... I KNOW for a fact that the local Cable Co. still uses SD boxes and it has been shown that many D* installers are still putting SD recvrs in when warranted.

Our cable company (bright house) still installs sd equipment as well so there's another one of is facts busted and directv can't do all markets by year in.
It's a 2-3 month process per market with double the force in the field brought I'm from surrounding markets

Are you referring to what is discussed in this article? Which is not quite what you posted, and only seems to apply to cablecos. Or can you give a link to more information about the "have to issue out HD capable boxes to all customers" part?

It applies to all Pay to watch tv providers, not just CATV.

I don't see that in the article. Do you have a better link that states all boxes must be HD capable? And all "new" boxes or all replacement boxes, or all boxes deployed in the field? And my link really concentrates on networking capability. How much IPTV capability will be required?

As I stated if you read what I posted, that by year end, SD only boxes will be a thing of the past by the end of this year, along with Mpeg-4 being the standard for all providers. Starting in 2015, you will start to see 4k/UHD transmissions by providers.

By 2016, 4k/UHD transmissions will increase by 10% as the numbers are showing from the manufacturers of the hd sets, Blu-Ray players, and along with those providers/studios that can afford the 4k/UHD capable cameras, recorders, encoders. The newer encoders that are being installed by CATV, ATT, etc, are already 4k/UHD capable, along with some are 8k capable at this point.

Get off of these forums, and start looking outside at what is going on in the tv, movie and content delivery systems (ie CATV, IPTV, Satellite), you will find that things right now are starting to move a little faster in gearing up for the big push in 2015, so that they are ready for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, when NBC, BBC and a few other networks, will be showcasing them in 4k/UHD.

Japan is set to start broadcasting in 4k/UHD this Summer. http://www.techvela.com/japan-to-unveiling-4k-tv-broadcast-in-summer-2014/

Start getting out more Jimbo, you will know this stuff. Stay on these boards, you will only continue to state that it is hearsay, because you think of it as second hand knowledge.

Long on talk, low on links.

You still have not documented the "HD only " claim. Nor remotely demonstrated that Dish will have to make Western Arc all MPEG-4.

Sorry dishrich, but I do have a clue. More then you do. All I see you doing in these forums, is protecting those who should not be named, without pulling your head out from under your rock.

Well since you've changed your "identity" AGAIN for this (new) forum to pollute, nobody knows when you'll be doing the same (except in your case change the rock to #%@) At least I do NOT have to hide behind multiple user names, because I've pissed SO many others off.
It wasn't hard to see you're still the very same person...since you're (still) getting into arguments with people here that have been around here & doing this a LOT longer (& better) than your a$$:

Maybe if you stopped with the ego, people would like you better.

I have no problems with "people"...what does that have to do with you...

I bet all you are, is some low level Customer Service Representative, or still working at Best Buy.

Well you would sure know about that, wouldn't you: :p :D

In all of the call centers I have worked in, not one used ID #'s for the employees. You could also choose to use a different first name if you wished, vs birth name.
Really I do not see much substance as to what your complaint is.

I bet you do a real good job at plugging in all those phones... :D :D

To let you in on a little secret...

BLAH BLAH BLAH....OK, I've had enough fun

Everybody else...before I have to put this "thing" on ignore (yet AGAIN!), in my "identity" reference above, if you want to see Broe67's other "gems", pull up some posts by these other sites ID's; you'll immediately see the resemblance of these same type (insulting) posts:

Never will happen. Same with the IPTV & CATV providers. It is a money maker for them, same as the lease fee on the boxes & other gear.

They COULD if they wanted too ..

D* Didn't have an HD Fee the first few years that HD was out.

IF Cable and Sat companies got together and decided no more HD Fees, everything would equal out, everyone would miss those extra fees, but they might have more subs because of it.

My Sister was going to sign up for the Local Cable Co service with 8mg internet, but with taxes it would put it over $100 and she declined.

BITE ME ...

Btw, you REALLY think that 4k TVs are selling well enough to support going live in '15 ... good luck with that.

Thats the whole dam problem. HD should be free period, and everyone should get HD capable equipment

Pay to watch tv is not cheap. Same with Internet. These companies that especially officer Internet services, know that they have you.

The problem is that it will never happen. Even in 25 years, you are still going to get hit with this "Services" fee. They see it as a money grab, just like the lease fees on equipment.

They are right now in Europe & Japan. As for here in the U.S., they are considered as a luxury item. They are forecasted to start taking off in 2015. By 2020, they are forecasting that all HD sets will be 4k capable. What we have currently will no longer be around as a hdtv.

For one I have used the same name on here from the start. Second I have a real job that involves dealing with stuff that you could not, and I can not discuss publicly what I do for a living. I am not someone that works on the phones at my job. As for insulting people, look in the mirror buddy. Every time I come across a post with your name on it, you are insulting, look down on people as Boot licker's, and think that you are above everyone else.

You want to earn the respect you want. Then start acting like someone who is an equal, not above others. I could go dig up plenty of stuff you have posted if you want, just so you feel so great today.

I've also supported issuing only mpeg4 equipment for all installations, but was told it was too expensive.

count me as one of those who has sd only equipment. HD is nice, especially for sports, but i just don't think it's good enough to warrant having to pay $10 more a month.

Now if directv wants to upgrade all my sd recievers, install a new dish all for free and waive the $10 a month fee. then sign me up :D
