The Weather Channel....is BACK!

OK, so I try to turn on the Weather Channel this morning, but my satellite signal is completely dead due to the storm. This got me thinking.... Any thought to adding the capability for live streaming of the channel via the broadband connection for just such a contingency on E* receivers? If not, maybe they bypass the satellite box (like Xfinity and Fios do now) and make an app with select channels for the XBox/PS4 (do the verifying thing like HBO Go if you have to)? It's just frustrating to try and get info and we can only get a few recorded videos from our tablets/smartphones/PCs that are stale by the time we view them.

Bob,
Can you get out to clear off the dish ?
Unless the storm has actually Moved its alignment you should still be good to go if the dish is clean.

Not a snow covered dish (and since it is mounted to my garage roof and is inaccessible without a 10 ft. ladder, which I don't have). The signal was completely blocked due to snow fade during the height of the storm this morning.... Signal couldn't reach my dish through the precip..... Signal back now, but my point is that the one channel we most want during extreme weather conditions is unavailable. If they made an app like Xfinity and Fios have and made that one of the channels available to stream, they could give us a backup.

Out of range of antennas (50 miles away plus terrain issues by me). At least without putting up a gigantic one on the roof that wouldn't pass the spousal test.

From which city do you get your locals? OR should I say, which do you prefer. Brielle is in the Philadelphia DMA. Cable systems there carry both Philly and NYC locals.

Dish says I am in the New York DMA. Years ago, I used to be able to get both NYC and Philly Locals, but they pulled the plug on that ability about 5 years ago, and forced me into the NYC DMA.

Perhaps the WAF could be enhanced thru the judicious use of enticements?

(Can she be bribed?)

Not a chance. I was all excited to get free solar panels on my roof after my Dad virtually eliminated his electric bill, but she nixed it. Killed me as this is a $4K a year line item for us.

if you have a decent internet connection..Aereo for 8 bucks a month carries NYC and sub channels..they may be in philly too

Thanks Jillian for that link, neat photo of the billboard and even more interesting are the comments below the article. Read the one from spam69 flying across country and getting frustrated with TWC.
Here's my prediction... Weather Nation and Accuweather take over as the places to go to get national and local weather information. TWC has some management changes (too late) and someone steps in and releases a "we lost our focus" statement, only the damage is done and it is too late. By this point, they need to stick with Highway Boo Boo because the damage is done.

Or they do a "SciFi" and re-brand as "The Whether Channel", as in, "whether I should grab my umbrella when I leave for work?"

Dish must be loving this, for now. But come negotiation time, we'll see if "Weather" Channel can survive on its own or if Comcast NBC Universal wraps everything up in one "take it or leave it" package.

will this new MIX channel launched in march show locals out of dma doing severe weather coverage such as in OKC or Alabama ? If so then I will switch to directv from dish in a heartbeat. Does anybody know ?

I wonder how many other cablecos, as well as Dish, are making contingency plans for when the time comes to renew their TWC contract ? :)

I bet cableco's and Dish is looking at this Hall and TWC is a sore loser and for as I am concerned they can stay gone and like Weather Nation a lot better and bring on Accu-Weather too!!! :)

Didn't they use to have Weather , your locals somewhat, on the Active channel ?

Was that tied to TWC ?

Or has it been gone alot longer ?

Problem I had with the Active channel is it took way too long to load.
