This morning we released a new version of our SatelliteGuys Reader app to the Google Play Store. This new version released to the Google Play store only supports Android Devices running Android 4.0 or later.

I do realize that some of you may have older Android devices so I am attaching a updated version of our app for those with older Android devices. :)

For those with iOS devices, the updated app has been submitted to Apple and is now waiting for review and approval. Once that happens the new version will be available in the iTunes store or for automatic upgrade for those with iOS 7 or higher. :)

And the changes are....?

Scott, if the app is appropriately done, Google play won't show an updated app for your device if it does not support it. You should be able to list the one for older devices on Google Play also.

- Fixed bug: thread will show <br> tag when switch between pages.
- Fixed bug: cannot delete unapproved thread in moderation tab.
- Fixed bug: open pm from notification, it will go to wrong pm.
- Fixed bug: broadcast shows Tapatalk app icon and name.
- Fixed bug: when select a post to operate, some texts in action bar are not clear to read.
- Updated to use white texts and icons in action bar if app has customised color scheme.
- Updated translations.

I have an OLD Sat Guys App, 1.3.18, don't know if it's been updated previously, this is the App I have been using, but I have heard other talk about the Sat Guys Reader.
What is that and how is it different from the App I have ?

The old SatelliteGuys app is unsupported. The SatelliteGuys Reader which has been out for about a year now has more features and is easier to use once you get use to it.

While the old app may work, it may stop working at any time and we have no control over it unfortunately.

The old app is still working here. I definitely like it more than the new app and will be sad to see it go.

Can you have both at the same time, I thought one would over right the other ...

You can have both. :)

If your an iphone user the original app hasn't been updated since iOS 5. I liked the app, but couldn't see spending almost $1000 a year for it when it wasn't updated in over a year. (And it hasn't been updated since then! Sad it was an excellent program!

I actually have an S4 Android and just haven't bothered to update because I haven't seen a need I guess.

If you guys say the new one is better, I will give it a try. :)

Just updated, seems pretty snappy.

After it comes to iOS I'll try it again. But they all have shortcomings.

Don't get me wrong, I completely understand why it was officially dropped. That said, I prefer it to the new one.

Sorry to say this but I rather use the Tapatalk app than the reader app itself, too much ads pop up with this new update, same for dbstalk and I'm a club member there. Which shouldn't show ads on apps, But SatelliteGuys I'm no pub member so I understand.

The first thing I noticed after upgrading the iOS SG Reader app this week were the ads, and I am a Pub member. The ads at the end of a thread are the most annoying as they are typically large format and sometimes open when I attempt to scroll back to the last post.

The new post notification on the subforum does not reliably work on the recent iOS version. The yellow highlight may or may not indicate if a new post is in the subforum. Can't tell if the notification is working with new threads or posts???

A pain to open each subforum to see if there is a new post. Anyone else having this problem?

Greetings from the middle of the ocean. :)

The ads should not be there. There is a new version of the plugin that must be installed on the server which is supposed to fix it however I can not update it here from the ship since our FTP and SFTP services are not on the standard ports. The ports we use (to help keep things secure) are not open here on the ship.

One of the first things I will do when I get back Sunday night when I get home is update the plugin.

But now it's time go sit out in the sun and drink another tropical drink. :)

Thanks for your understanding.

Enjoy the drinks, Scott! I may have to have one on my layover in Atlanta :)

Ok I was able to upload the new Plugin from the car as we ride back from NYC to Connecticut :)

Hopefully it fixes all issue.

For those using the Tapatalk app and not the SatelliteGuys app please be aware that Tapatalk has notified us they will be adding ads within the next month, when they do SatellteGuys will not see a penny from those ads. At that time we will probably make it so you can no longer access SatelliteGuys via TapaTalk since we pay a lot of money each month for our own app. Our App has ads to help pay for the app, but PUB MEMBERS SHOULD NEVER SEE ADS IN OUR APP! I do realize when Tapatalk makes changes to our custom app there have been time ads have shown for Pub Members. When this has happened I have worked with Tapatalk to quickly install a fix.

Thanks for your patience everyone. :)

Ouch, I paid for the pro version of Tapatalk on both my iPhone and my iPad and use it every day. I understand not wanting them to take ad money away from Satelliteguys but that one stings a little.
