So I am going to be swapping my swm 8 out with a swm 16. For my current set up I have 1 line coming off of the SWM1/PWR going into the power inserter, then the 8 way splitter is fed by the IRD port of the power inserter with the DVRs being fed from the 8 way splitter. Is this type of set up NOT recommended for the SWM16? I notice in the pictures & wiring diagrams for the 16 that I have seen, it appears there is a dedicated PWR port on the SWM unit that is being used to ONLY go to the power inserter.

My plan is to feed the HR44 directly from one SWM port & feed the splitter from the other SWM port. Can I still feed the splitter from the power inserter connected to the SWM1/PWR port on the swm16 like I do with the swm8? Will it work this way or do I need to feed a dedicated power line to the power inserter from the DC/PWR port & a separate run to the splitter straight from the swm16?

I also noticed the lack of an OFF AIR port on the swm16. I assume that it's not possible to diplex an antenna connection with the swm16 like you can with the swm8?

thanx!

Setup is very similar with swm8 vs swm16, only difference is, the swm1 and swm2 on the swm16 are two separate 8 tuners. So to answer ur question, yes you can just move the splitter to the swm1 and connect the genie on swm2 and replace PI with 29v. No need for a dedicated power line.

Edit: no you cant use OTA with swm16.

This is a separate switch that gets mounted on the outside, right ?

You also now need 4 lines from the dish and a different LNB.

Ok now i'm confused, do you have a swm8 setuo or do you have a swm lnb and 8way splitter setup?

Edit 1: But yes you need 4 lines comming down from dish.

Edit 2: its a switch that will replace your current swm8 not add to it. And no you dont need a new lnb assuming you actually have a swm8. Hence 4 lines down from dish already.

Ok, now I'm confused ...
I'm gonna let you handle this one, so we don't mix two threads up, I have a separate thread discussing the same thing earlier, thought I had it figured out, but apparently not.

Jimbo has a different setup than I do. I have an SL5 LNB with 4 lines feeding my SWM8 switch. He has an SL3 SWM LNB with 1 line feeding a splitter. For him to change to a swm 16 he'll need to change LNBs and have the 4 lines to come off the dish. I'm simply changing from a swm8 to a swm 16. I don't think I'll need to change my PI as it says it's for use with a swm8 or a swm16. The way its mounted in my basement I can't see the specs but I do believe it's the 29v.

Usually the 29v is grey and 21v is black. If you have swm8 then its a direct swap, just need to move the line going to genie to swm2.

The 21 volt power inserter is only for use with a swm lnb. The 29 volt model can be used with a swm lnb as well as a swm8/16 switch.
