"Moving"

Nope, they are considered NYC all the way. The rest of CT gets NESN and most everyone gets CSN. I'm in New Haven county. I don't get CSN, but I do get all of the NYC rsns and NESN.

YES creeps into New England a little, but NESN sticks to the Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut border with New York - except Fairfield Co, CT. NESN has mentioned this a few times on the air, and I have seen it on contest info.

I saw Chip's post and remembered that CSN doesn't have the same coverage area as NESN, which makes absolutely no sense. I always felt northern VT and NY should get RDS, too, but that is an ENTIRELY different subject!

To recap - if the OP "moves" to NYC DMA, they will only get the CBS, NBC, ABC, and Fox for locals. They will not get My9, WPIX, etc. They will get all sports on the NYC RSN channels. They will NOT get their OK locals (or RSNs) on Directv. If the OP wants their locals, they could always get an antenna and AM21 and have access to all of the locals they receive at their residence.

Is there any area in the NYC locals DMA that is far enough away from the city that there is overlap with a neighboring sports market? I don't see anywhere, but it could be interesting to have that. When traveling through that area, I am always amazed as to how geographically small the coverage area is for NYC OTA, and the DMA in general.

Yes this is true I know but I get locals from Amarillo and not Oklahoma City. It sucks because I do a lot of business in Okc and don't care about Amarillo at all.

He won't get his Amarillo either , unless he uses an OTA antenna. (just so he knows)

That's what OTA antennas are for...

I get Dallas OTA but my Direct is "moved" to San Antonio so I can see my home area news and watch all the Spurs games.
Correct, but Clownin hasn't mentioned that he's doing an OTA that I remember.

He hasn't, but there are enough people out there who don't consider it, so I thought it was worth mentioning.

True.

Often people move to get stations more in line with their locality. Local weather would be nice, but you can get that online or by radio.

Yes I realize I would lose everything local all together if I "moved". I live so far from Amarillo that an Ota antenna does me no good either. I will probably still keep to my location and live with it I love my Knicks but big 12 football is king for me. I couldn't live with missing all the games on ABC and Fox with the east coast feed. And thanks for all the feedback for sure!!

exactly. There are situations where a county may get the neighboring states locals that don't cover their area.

Great example of a "huh" county is Gogebic County in Michigan. It gets the Duluth, MN locals which are 120 miles away (oh and two STATES away). Cable has Marquette locals along with Duluth locals

I can't imagine anyone "moving" without also using OTA, otherwise they get no local news or weather.

If you move way far away, yes I would agree

But what if you move a county over to get better locals and those locals cover your area? What if someone in Sherman, TX moves a county south to the Dallas market? Another example is my buddy lived in Fergus Falls, MN. He was in the Fargo, ND DMA per Nielsen yet he is about 80 miles from Fargo. However 10 miles down the road he would be in Grant County which is in the Minneapolis DMA. They cover that area for weather too.

NBA Pass ?

Yes NBA pass would work but I have a feeling with all the buzz around Phil Jackson next year there will be a lot of games nationally covered

If I "move" to the NYC metro area this fall will local sports (most importantly the NY Giants) games be blacked out for locals? I know in NE it's not that way so I would assume the same holds true for there too. I am thinking about only getting RedZone this year, but being able to watch the Giants on the local NYC station would keep me from having to subscribe to ST this season. Thoughts?

Thank you.
If you "move" to the NYC designated market area, you will receive NYC locals, NY regional sports nets ( SNY, YES and MSG). You will see the Giants and Jets each week on your locals. Of course, those games will be blacked out on the NFL ST channels. The NFL RZ shows what it shows.

You do know that your service can be terminated for doing this right? This is also breaking FCC rules. Notbsurr ifbyou could potentially get in any trouble for this, but, I wouldn't advise it.

YOu're right. But who may I ask is enforcing this?
Trouble? Like being taken to the town square and put into stocks trouble? Being thrown into a prison trouble?
Having property taken away trouble? Garnishment of wages trouble? Two guys named Joey and Pauly kneecapping the OP trouble?

I always thought Fairfield County, CT was but checking the RSN map I was wrong. They are in the NYC DMA and they get NY RSN's but I thought they also got NESN and CSN NE but guess not

Fairfield is solid NYC DMA. All other CT Counties are part of the Hartford DMA...Now, the sketchy part is the NYC RSN's go much farther into CT...for example. Litchfield and New Haven Counties are considered in the markets of the NYC teams. Except the Islanders and Devils. But, parts of those counties actually receive MSG, YES and SNY as their regular RSN's...weird
Cable customers who live in New Haven and Litchfield Counties may also have the Hartford AND NYC locals as well as Boston RSN's depending upon their zip code.
I had a friend that lived in Brick, NJ. This is about half way between NYC and Phila....On his cable, he got local from BOTH cities. he also had the RSN's from NYC but NOT Phila. Weird...

No, it's Peggy and Pauly :D

Why do people have to "move" to get different locals?. If you want those locals, then get up and move your physical home to that location. It's against DirecTV's TOS to give them a fake address where the equipment is located. There is always someone out there to disobey the rules and screw the system.

its also against the law to speed.....yet people do it
its illegal to drive through a red light....yet people do it
last I checked it is illegal to buy weed in Minnesota....yet people do it

As long as Directv gets their money my theory is who cares. When I had Directv I wish we could sub to any set of locals that are in the spotbeam.
