I really do not see this really helping the consumer. I do worry though that DIRECTV seems to be a well run company with a clear vision. If the DIRECTV executives all get paid to leave what will happen to the company?

Att would be better off buying companies like Cox and charter than directv. Att biggest mistake was selling att broadband to Comcast. I was hoping Charlie would merge with directv.
How will this affect Sunday ticket? Contract expires after next year (2015) and of att buys directv then they could put Sunday ticket on att universe also.
Maybe the nfl will open Sunday ticket to all operators or allow people to just buy the package that allows online and mobile access and leave tv access to directv.

Scott I couldn't agree more. Their horrible reputation is deserved as in the past they may have been about the worst, but over the last couple of years I find customer service is better than average.
Hopefully AT&T will let Directv run business as usual and will use Directv to build a strong Bundel offer.

The only problem is that everybody has access to Directv,the same cannot be said for Comcast. If Comcast got exclusive rights to NFL ST,it's not in my city limits & perhaps never will be. Comcast would be a true monopoly if they got NFL ST,because the chances are great that municipalities will exclusive rights to certain cable companies will be pressured to drop those contracts for a contract with Comcast. Comcast will become the "Ma Bell(before its breakup)" of cable TV. As far as online access goes,I thought you could get NFL ST on your PlayStation without a subscription to Directv?
Now Comcast's,Cox's,TWC's,& Brighthouse Network's In Demand PPV/VOD service would be a different story as far as obtaining NFL ST goes.
Don't jump the ship just yet. Who's to say that Dish won't attempt a merger with Verizon,Sprint,or T-Mobile? Right now,Directv is still the only company with NFL Sunday Ticket. That hasn't changed yet. As far as I'm concern,cable doesn't have what Directv or Dish has & I don't plan on moving anywhere that offers Comcast. I had Charter,who sold the rights to my municipality to Cobridge,who sold the rights of my municipality to Knology,who was acquired by Wow,& programming has gotten progressively worse under each change.
It's like musical chairs where someone gets left standing. But ,....?
Reuters article says that the breakup of the ATT/America Movil partnership may result in America Movil (one of the biggest wireless/tv companies out there) joining up with Dish or one of the remaining US wireless companies. Would be fun to see since it would add a well capitalized player to the competition.

With AT&T's billions behind DIRECTV I bet they manage to win NFLST. Their payday now depends on it. I think it was a risk to publicize the fact that DIRECTV has to get ST to complete the deal. The NFL can hold out for more knowing that DIRECTV has to get it.
Will Verizon standby or will they get in the mix with their own purchase as their fiber is decades away from going everywhere.

most people who have hughesnet aren't going to be seeing any att/driectv bundles anytime soon due to the fact that they don't have access to att anyways
