OK, last two questions:
  1. I have an extra Dish remote. If I buy a used Joey on eBay that doesn't include a remote, can I program my extra remote to the eBay Joey?
  2. If I get it all hooked up and I call Dish to activate, are they going to give me any problems since I did a DIY install?

1. I suppose it depends on the remote but it should work. If it's a Hopper/Joey remote then you just need to press the SAT button to pair it to the Joey.

2. You shouldn't have any issues. Just call Dish and tell them you have a purchased Joey that you want to activate. All you should have to do is give them the receiver number from the Joey. Make sure that they confirm that they label your Joey as purchased on your account too.

Be sure before you buy an "owned" Joey off ebay that it is really owned. Call DISH with the receiver # before you buy, most Hopper & Joeys are leased.

I am glad you said something. I called Dish and gave them the Joey ID number and they said it is on a past due account and it is being leased. So they would not activate it on my account. I have contacted the seller. Fingers crossed that I get my money back. God I hate eBay.
