Well today for the first time since our big move from vBulletin to Xenforo I have been able to look at our stats in Google Analytics.

Some interesting fact and figures and thought I would share them with you.

First off (and this is a major one) our traffic is DOWN 52% since the big move. This is something I expected and most of it being caused by the search indexes taking forever to re-index the site. In addition I messed up something (else) and had many of the redirects to the new website set to 302 (Temporarily Moved) instead of a 301 (Permanently Moved) I just corrected this issue this morning. Thanks to the user who noticed this and emailed me. But with that said traffic is increasing each day, I figure in another two months or so at this rate we will be back to our old numbers.

Ad revenue is still down and has declined more since the move. But over the last few days it has started a slow climb up, I hope it keeps going up. :) I don't know if I want to touch the ads, as I am happy with the positions now, but I was just given instructions how to use DFP (DoubleClick for publisher) to work with XenForo in the current ad locations. My big worry is that it will take Google Adsense forever to relearn the ad positions.

But some (well actually a LOT of) GOOD NEWS...

On the old software the Bounce Rate was over 70%, meaning that most people would come the the site and then leave without looking at another page here on the site. On the new software our bouncerate is now 21.3% and Analytics is reporting this is a 75% drop in our bounce rate.

The Avg Session Duration before the move was 2 minutes and 23 seconds. Now the Avg session duration since the move has climbed up to 12 minutes and 42 seconds! That is 10 minutes HIGHER then before. This is a VERY GOOD THING! People are spending more time here and its climbing every day!

Now onto some fun things...

The speed on the new software is night and day when compared to the old software! Take a look at the load times on vBulletin and then the load times on the new software.

Here is a list of speeds reported by browsers when accessing the site with ads loading. These numbers should decline as all ads are now being served by iframe and no longer affect page loading speed.

Some more nice times. Love that fall off after we left the old software behind. :)

That's a listing of browsers you guys are using here at SatelliteGuys. (Totals are just for this month) And the sessions listed are unique sessions.

Thank you for the stats. I love this stuff!

So about 20% of country of origin is unknown or scattered in many tiny bits?

Well, that's a rather jaw-dropping number. :( I thought Xenforo was supposed to improve the situation! At the current rate of growth, how long until you get to your previous peak on vBulletin? IIRC, traffic (and revenues?) were off 50% since last year.

The reasons for the numbers are explained above. With a big portion of it due to search engine reindexing.

The rest of the numbers are extremely positive, especially the bounce rate and time spent online. :D

Yeah, but... The 52% drop is counting from an already precipitous drop, is it not?

I was referring to your thread which I can't find right now (in the Pub?) regarding the future of Satelliteguys and the precipitous drop in traffic and ad revenue this year. I think you said something about getting "sandboxed" by Google, and you also thought the home page was the culprit. I don't think those drops were expected.

No those drops on the old software were not expected.

But with that said we are no longer listed as being in the sandbox by Google. In fact Google seems to like it. :D

I do not see how the average page load time could have been 7.73 seconds, it is about 1 second or less for me.

That time was including loading ads. :)

Being s Pub Member has its benefits.
