So how long do you think the Dish/Turner dispute will last?

In a way this reminds me of the Directv/weather channel dispute. Imo this is not hurting dish as bad as turner. If it goes long enough turner will come back with their tail between their legs & for less money than they're getting now.

nope..they have TNT and TBS

Yea, but Dish has shown their colors with AMC. They will drop popular channels. They are not afraid to do it, and it still hurts Turner a lot more.

dish only lost ~100 thousand customers last quarter..obviously their game plan is to make higher profit with fewer customers..eventually it won't work anymore

Why do you keep saying Dish dropped a channel. Legally, unless the channel grants an extension, it would be illegal for Dish to transmit a channel without a valid contract. Blame the channel for demanding a higher retransmisson fee.

Overview

DISH lost approximately 44,000 net Pay-TV subscribers during the three months ended June 30, 2014, compared to a loss of approximately 78,000 net Pay-TV subscribers during the same period in 2013. The decrease in the loss of net Pay-TV subscribers versus the same period in 2013 primarily resulted from higher gross new Pay-TV subscriber activations.

During the three months ended June 30, 2014, DISH activated approximately 656,000 gross new Pay-TV subscribers compared to approximately 624,000 gross new Pay-TV subscribers during the same period in 2013, an increase of 5.1%. This increase was driven primarily by increased advertising. Although our gross new Pay-TV subscriber activations increased, our gross new Pay-TV subscriber activations continue to be negatively impacted by increased competitive pressures, including aggressive marketing, discounted promotional offers, and more aggressive retention efforts in a mature market. In addition, our gross new Pay-TV subscriber activations continue to be adversely affected by sustained economic weakness and uncertainty.

Our Pay-TV churn rate for the three months ended June 30, 2014 was 1.66% compared to 1.67% for the same period in 2013. While our Pay-TV churn rate was similar compared to the same period in 2013, our Pay-TV churn rate continues to be adversely affected by increased competitive pressures, including aggressive marketing and discounted promotional offers. Our Pay-TV churn rate is also impacted by, among other things, the credit quality of previously acquired subscribers, our ability to consistently provide outstanding customer service, price increases, service interruptions driven by programming disputes, and our ability to control piracy and other forms of fraud.

DISH lost approximately 4,000 net Pay-TV subscribers during the six months ended June 30, 2014, compared to a loss of approximately 42,000 net Pay-TV subscribers during the same period in 2013. The decrease in the loss of net Pay-TV subscribers versus the same period in 2013 primarily resulted from lower Pay-TV churn and higher gross new Pay-TV subscriber activations.

Our Pay-TV churn rate for the six months ended June 30, 2014 was 1.54% compared to 1.57% for the same period in 2013. While our Pay-TV churn rate improved compared to the same period in 2013, our Pay-TV churn rate continues to be adversely affected by increased competitive pressures, including aggressive marketing and discounted promotional offers. Our Pay-TV churn rate is also impacted by, among other things, the credit quality of previously acquired subscribers, our ability to consistently provide outstanding customer service, price increases, service interruptions driven by programming disputes, and our ability to control piracy and other forms of fraud.

During the six months ended June 30, 2014, DISH activated approximately 1.295 million gross new Pay-TV subscribers compared to approximately 1.278 million gross new Pay-TV subscribers during the same period in 2013, an increase of 1.3%.

This says they did better than last year.

I don't think it will be long, the AMC dispute had a lot of other bad blood (VOOM lawsuit) and the pressure for DISH to carry AMC wasn't really on until their juggarnaut The Walking Dead came back and DISH had it back by the third week of season three.

In a way this reminds me of the Directv/weather channel dispute.
Not even close to the Directv/TWC dispute because nobody really missed or wanted back TWC and their less weather more reality crap, and why we even have it back.

But Turner channels they do want back for Cartoon Network,Boomerang and CNN especially for elections a few days away
although I doubt they want it back for HLN unless they like tabloid news or Nancy Grace :D

I want them back only for those who want them back.

If they don't come back by Wednesday it will be longer than I thought it would be and if they don't come back and if true that TNT and TBS come up very soon it does give credence that Turner isn't really negotiating till then when clearly they will have a stronger position.

You also got to consider I sold a lot of Directv last week, mostly from dish customers complaining.

How much can dish take customers canceling service ??

Did you really get that many switching just because of those channels? I still haven't come in and mention the channels or even have anyone call me. When we lost our local ABC channel and the Big Ten Network a few years ago we had complaints nonstop and did lose a lot of customers though. I will admit that you probably have a lot more customers than I have though so you would hear from more of them.

We're not that big and we've had several calls and complaints and have one new install on hold.
