Um, yeah but the move is to force commercials with streaming content. Yes, HBO would do this because are those people going to go get a cable or sat subscription? No. The Hulu Plus model is the future. Double dipping, if you will, but what are cord cutters going to do about it? Nothing because they will have no other options except the more expensive ones with a DVR service that will allow you to skip the sex drug commercials.

Oh Claude, you act as if Dish and DirecTV operate so differently. Everyone already knows that you have a vendetta against Dish. How long will it be before DirecTV makes you mad?
I wonder if the higher fee for HBO is hurting their subscriber numbers at all.
CBS, HBO along with others may want to consider a discount for their streaming service for those that already have a tv subscription package with their channel purchased like a combo deal.

ESPN must make exceptions for these low-end (I don't mean that in a negative way) packages. On cable, at least a few years ago when Time Warner, for example, had a "lifeline" package, ESPN wasn't included.
When they say it must be included in the basic package generally they mean the most basic basic of the core packages. The Smart Pack and Welcome Pack are not core packages and do not qualify for all the new customer promotions.
The Welcome Pack surprisingly has some decent channels for what it is. The Smart Pack is worthless if you ask me though.
If you drop down to those packages they do not qualify for HD programming so you would no longer be part of the Free HD promotion. It shouldn't be a big deal because I would think you can sign back up for the Free HD when you go back up to a package that had HD channels.
Not for life, but I think they are offering it for 2 years as of now. Who knows what they'll do in 2 years.
They may start using HD after two years as a retention tool, to waive the fee if you stick with them. The more fees they charge you, the more credits they can give you to entice you to stay without costing them so much.
I can't imagine Dish letting a customer go because they won't offer them the HD for free when the time comes. I believe the only reason they changed the Free HD promotion was for marketing reasons anyway. Like I said, I wouldn't worry about the Free HD at all.
As long as the subscription is always active, if you were grandfathered into HDFFL, and go to say, Welcome Pack, if you decide later to go back to the AT200, then You would still be grandfathered with the tag line item on their system. This grandfathered programming, works different then the others, such as superstations. Reason being, if you remember the disclosures for HDFFL, it stated as long as the account stays current you will maintain HDFFL. If your account gets disco'd, for something like non payment or anything else, it's possible to lose it then, I'm unfamiliar with that territory.
