I'm wanting to buy a basic receiver to tailgate with. I found one on solidsignal.com. Do they have a good reputation? Would it be easier just to call D*? I think it's a model D12.

Solid Signal has a GREAT reputation ....

Remember, your "Leasing" the recvr if you get it from SS or D* doesn't matter.

Thanks Jimbo. I found a 18" dish at the local dump. Still had the LNB on it. Tested it on an old receiver that my parents have. The receiver has to be 15 years old. Worked just fine.

Depending upon your payment history, length with Directv, they may well send you the receiver for nothing. No matter where you get it, it will be an additional $6/month and a new commitment of a year IIRC.
