FOX News Channel/DISH dispute

(This is not my own idea, read it) In the case of CNN the problem for Turner is allowing any carrier to decide not to carry it, it further diminishes the CNN brand. If CNN was as strong as Fox News, that would be a very different situation.

Thought I read it was Saturday morning... I only say that because I feel like the board is going to go nuts at 8 or 9 pm with people saying "I still have it".

I still have it. I'll report back in a couple of hours.

I don't think it was to go away until 8pm tonight

Yes.....Just if just for pure dramatics would be a great ploy....! And then a whole weekend off worry and non stop phone calls to get it back on.....Id bet on it!

I agree with your math for four rooms for each. Add $3 to that for those like me that pay the $3 RSN surcharge and it's $8 less a month even for 4 rooms with DISH at this time. That $122 comparison is really fictitious till we see the exact increases for both. It's either $122 or $125 with Direct TV right now and $117 with DISH. Savings are even more for the by far more who have a set up of one, two or three rooms which is my premise. Most people have the VIP receiver and most have one, two, or three receivers.
DISH is less, often much less for those not looking for the whole home set up, I have never tried to see the exact difference with Direct for that. Both seem to be always less than Cable when you can get through Cable's smoke screens about price.
I chose a 4 room setup because that is what my family would require,2 room setup is irrelevant in our case. This is also in comparison to vip receivers which we currently have.Anyway, the cost difference is pretty negligible, which goes right back to my original point. If Dish is fighting tooth and nail to keep our prices down, how is it that they are almost or in some cases equal in price to dtv?I'd hate to see dish pricing if they carried sunday ticket and mlb extra innings.lol

I have a feeling whatever the savings it will be characterized as not much so I'm not going down that road. But the real point is you changed what I said. My post was for most people. And by far, most people have either one, two or three rooms with VIP receivers compared to those with four and more rooms or the Hopper and are saving in the neighborhood of $144 to $180 a year over Direct TV. I have always said those that need or want the most up to date equipment like the Hopper or who have alot of receivers won't save as much but I credit DISH for keeping the prices lower for those that don't need the bells and whistles. DISH allows those who want good DVR's and are trying to save a way to save substantially over the competition. And one reason for that is their refusal to simply pay what programmers want. So these disputes are indeed saving me alot over Direct TV around $180 every year.

I recently checked Directv, Time Warner, and Uverse for anything that has TCM and NBCSN in HD (and a single receiver) and Dish wins. I don't understand why some people have trouble accepting this.

Depending on what you want, YMMV, but typically Dish offers the best deal for us single receiver folk. They also have a bunch of cheaper packages you won't find elsewhere. Doesn't mean Dish will be getting the Nobel Prize, but they do offer a better deal for some.

One explanation is most favored nation clauses in contracts. One provider wins a price concession from a content provider and everyone else with such a clause in their contracts also gets that price.

Politics aside, all news channels got a bump over the Ferguson/NY issues recently. Fox News has been beating CNN in the ratings for years, so "momentum" would not be the correct term. All the "news" channels are no longer "general news channels", so trying to say Fox News is not and CNN or MSNBC is, would be overstating a bit. And last, as for CNN recent ratings, in November 2014, "CNN's Monday’s 9pm ET timeslot on CNN drew 181,000 total viewers, the lowest for the time period since at least Oct. 1, 1991". So, you can let your politics bend your views, but numbers are numbers. Here are the links:

Live + Same Day Cable News Daily Ratings for Thursday, December 11, 2014

Total Day P2+ (000s) 25-54 (000s) 35-64 (000s)
FOXN 1,287 229 492
CNN 398 106 191

MSNBC 359 80 145
CNBC 167 53 68
FBN 52 13 22
HLN 319 147 192

Just to be clear, I do not watch any of these "news" channels, and I support Dish trying to get the best deal possible, even if it means some down time. I do not subscribe to the "pay whatever they are asking" policy. I am not rich, so I need to save wherever I can.
Yep, schlock sells.

Probably won't pull the plug until Monday morning or 4pm EST after market bell. If the 2 channels are still on throughout xmas, that could be a sign they're negotiating. As Fox would keep the feed alive in good faith.

This is why I have a backup in my channels through my cable modem.

I get about 40 SD channels and a few HD channels as a side perk of having internet over cable.

They actually include several channels that I do not get with AT120.

Which Cable modem provides 40-50 channels of TV?
