FOX News Channel/DISH dispute

The problem with this I just found out is that you cannot access foxnewsgo.com unless you are a subscriber of Dish or another providor & although I've been with Dish 20 years, as long as Fox is not available on Dish, you are not allowed to access this. I just tried it & Dish is not even listed as one of the subscribers. Am I missing something here?

Ken
Yeah...this is the way it is with ESPN3, HBO go.com and I guess Foxgo.com.....In order to get these things, one must be a subscriber on a pay tv provider to those services.

Can you provide a link or text to this story because I have not seen this....
Thanks

"Executives at Dish say Fox is playing hardball with them by attempting to use the news channel as leverage to increase fees for their sports and entertainment channels normally covered by separate contracts.

“It’s like we’re about to close on a house and the realtor is trying to make us buy a new car as well,” said Warren Schlichting, Dish Network’s Senior Vice President of programming. “Fox blacked out two of its news channels, using them as leverage to triple rates on sports and entertainment channels that are not in this contract.”

My provider has SD digital channels in the clear plus all HD locals in HD, not through the cable modem, but through any digital tuner with a splitter before the cable modem.

Picture is pretty good for SD.

Just counted, I get 56 digital channels (8 locals in HD) including Longhorn, SEC, my RSN my RSN+ channels, Fox Sports 1, NBC Sports and several others that I do not get on AT120 for no charge with my 50/5 internet and phone service for $70/month.

Of course they could block them at any time, but no so far.
Which provider is the one you have?

That same quote was in the news release from Dish..I subscribed to their email list several years ago...
In any event, that is Dish's perspective. I would hope to see BOTH sides of the argument between the two firms

Only, if you feel that it is alright for FOX to try to bring up three Fox sports channels , that are NOT up for RENEWAL , into this same dispute as Fox News and Business channels. To DISH this was a violation of the existing contracts & that would obviously give FOX even more leverage in contract renewals going forward in the future.
Not it's not "alright"....It's business. Christmas will pass and business is business.
I may not agree with it, but I understand it.
There's Dish, there Fox, there's 500 feet of crap. Then there is us....The consumer.

99% of Americans don't watch Fox News....Interesting. And such anger.

It is a fact, do the math. Let's say that 300 million people live in the U.S. 1% is 3 million people. I was being gracious with the stat because Fox News does not have 3 million viewers. Worse yet, the viewers they do have are overwhelmingly old and white. No need to read anything into my statement, just look at the numbers.

I suspect the Fox viewership numbers on Dish are higher because Dish caters to the rural, white, older parts of the country. Where I live, a place where 7 out 10 people vote Republican and Jesus has a club on every corner, I suspect the Fox viewership numbers are quite high.

This is not the place to get into what I think of Fox News. In our home, their channels, along with the plethora of church channels, have been banished from the guide via a favorite list. They have been raptured away, never to be seen again.

What less content?
You appear to be reading just short snippets of this thread. The issue of FS1, FXX has already been noted in this thread. That is the problem we are having with Newscorp right now.
Fox is trying to negotiate based on the ratings for FNC and Fox Business....
No. They are using those channels ratings as leverage for FS1 and FXX. As I noted before Disney didn't black out ESPN. Newscorp blacked out FNC. Place your anger at the appropriate target. Newscorp is using you as a bargaining chip to get more money for channels you may not even watch.

Let's just hope that Dish puts him on their bad customer list and refuse to accept him in the future if he wants to come back.
He sounds like the type of person who is ushered out the door and told never to come back.
As in "you're money is no good here"....Meant in a bad way.

Please leave your political commentary for another forum. Fox News has beaten all other cable news networks in the ratings far the past couple years. More young people watch Fox News than any other cable news network. Just the facts.
Not political commentary, just facts.

Yes, more young people watch Fox but it is more of the young people that watch TV news watch Fox. Most of the younger demographic do not watch TV news at all. So Fox is the leader of a part of a small percentage of young people that watch TV news. Woo hoo!

Six grown kids, three daughter in laws. None of them watch TV news. Three of my six kids have Dish. Again, none of them watch TV news. They go to the Internet for their news.

I am quite happy to play the numbers game if you wish to. When you say Fox is leading you need to answer, leading what? The fact is, 99% of Americans do not watch Fox News nor do they watch CNN or MSNBC.

This has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with mathematics. Personally, I would have no problem if Dish told all the news channels to take a hike. I don't watch any if them. I read the news on the Internet every day from multiple websites/blogs. Outside of Jon Stewart, I watch no politically oriented TV programming.

No...You're getting the liberal perspective on the conservative viewpoint. That is not "hearing it twice"..
But......anyway. Like I said, fear of information is not a good thing.
Being closed minded is even worse.
Ok, David Justice putting on headphones in "Money Ball"...we're done.

Thanks for posting this. I have been referencing this news in earlier posts , but didn't have the actual link.:hatsoff

Rusticus has a point. I don't watch Fox, but if I am scanning channels, I sometimes stop on Fox. They know how to pick some leggie beauties. That Kelley is HOT.
So....you choose your source of news and information based on the attractiveness of the newsreaders?

I hope you don't choose your doctors or elected officials that way.

You'll be hard-pressed to find a provider that doesn't have this kind of "drama".

I can deal with some but not every freaken month

The only way to avoid these disputes is to cut the cable and get an antenna. Can't help when contracts expire and they don't want them to extend while negotiations for the new ones are on going. This is the road the market has put us on. It's not going to change anytime soon for anyone.

Some of the headlines you guys are linking to are really irking me. Dish didn't "ban" Fox. Fox is not allowing them to keep the channel on while they hash out a new deal. I guess that doesn't make as sexy a headline.

here's why in my opinion that Fox and Dish are in dispute mode now for Fox News and Fox Business

reason #1: contract expire and Dish and Fox are trying to get the channels restored as possible, but they haven't reached a idea price on both sides.

reason #2: Digital streaming access for Dish Customers for FXnow and The Simpsons World App and Fox Sports Go and other streaming of Fox owned networks that Dish doesn't have a deal to allow access to see the content on the online streams,

reason #3: other Fox Channels contract might be set to expire soon and Fox wanted to raise their rates and bundle the channels together in this cycle of deal negotiations. FX, FSN RSNs and Nat Geo were affected by a dispute, which caused a 4 week blackout in October 2010, which was finally settled when the Fox Owned and Operated stations finally went into play as their contract was set to expire at the end of October of that year.

and final reason: the Hopper related lawsuits, reasons 1-3 were Pro-Fox, this reason is Pro-Dish, as after Dish made an announcement that the Hooper would have a revolutionary feature known as Prime-Time Anytime, which had a feature where you can auto hop thought the ads to get back to the prime time show you are watching. Fox, CBS and Disney (owners of ABC) weren't happy about this feature and sued Dish. Disney and CBS were Fox's allies in their legal war with Dish, but both Disney and CBS caved over this feature so now you have to wait 3 days for ABC prime-time shows to be auto-hop past an ad break while CBS has a full week of waiting until you get that feature active for their prime-time programs. with CBS and Disney caving and were now ok with Prime-Time Anytime, this left Fox as the only one still in legal action with Dish. if Dish and Fox reach an new agreement for Fox News and Fox Business, it could be possible that all legal cases related to Fox vs. Dish would end via settlement and an agreement being reached.

that's my reasons why the blackout is happening.

Because of the direction that this thread has taken, I have a question. Is there a way to put a person that posts on here on ignore? I grow tired of being pounded with religion just to make a point. Please, someone show me where the ignore button can be found. I've had enough.
