FOX News Channel/DISH dispute

I can't even ask a logical question? I wasn't arguing with anyone. It just should not matter one way or another if any channel is in the lineup to someone who does not like to watch that channel. That is what the remote is for!
But to fully address this will require going into the politics and will drag the thread off course of a Dish Network theme.

Sometimes it is refreshing when a customer rep tells the truth. There is nothing that can be done except at the highest levels of Dish. And they are not allowed to volunteer credits to customers unless the customer demands it.

I'm not suggesting that the rep not tell the truth. And, of course, the rep doesn't make policy. But there should be something in place to make the customer feel assured that he or she is welcomed and that the company is on their side.

My subscription is for 120 channels. I may watch a dozen of them. Of all the TV I watch, 40% to 50% is Fox News Channel. So based on your logic and My viewing habits I should be entitled to at least 40% off my bill. That doesn't count compensation for disrupting my normal habits and agrivation.

Well................Welcome to socialism.....lol.....So you think your entitled?.....This is capitalism at its best.....Something your channel loves to boast about....Get it?

I understand your displeasure.....do something about it.... The whining is so old.....Hunker down, get ride of dish......do something.....

And my point is you pay for 120 channels..... so that's less than 1% of all your channels?....Suck it up.....Or are you another one calling and asking for money back (entitled)?

This is not the first dispute nor the last.....Give it some time and see what happens.....Guess that's what unions due with management from time to time? You no collective bargaining? .....Or that evil word COMPROMISE......!

For all the people complaining who are also saying that Fox News is literally the only channel they watch I wonder why they arn't more vocal with the various cable companies (and Fox for that matter) about wanting to have Fox News moved to an alacarte offering. Guess they like being bent over, paying for 100's of channels when they only watch one of them.

It is true, though. Apples to apples packages are roughly the same price, especially when factoring fees.

Where Dish leads on price is by offering more basic packages with fewer channels for less money.

That's simply is not true. I gave exact apples to apples figures. Most subscribers have the VIP series receivers and as such most are saving like I am over Direct TV a varying range depending on number of rooms. Two rooms saves for me $15 a month. (I would be a lucky Direct TV customer paying a $3 surcharge) Three rooms (As I remember) about $12 for me) I believe one room is $20 less but would have to look again. Also someone posted the Hopper can be quite some less also in some configurations but since I don't have that I have not directly compared.

I have always said long before now those that want the latest technology or with the VIP series have four or more rooms will pay much closer to Direct TV.

Its all good bro,I think all these channel disputes are gettin to us lol.No hard feelings on my part.

100% agree and Thanks. Nothing more than a difference of opinion.

The latest and currently offered tech is what is generally used in these comparisons or discussions. In discussions past, with past pricing and fees, I've not found a big difference in my setup with VIP or HR, same as will now between the Hooper and Genie.

Of course its different with older tech versus new tech.

Listed current prices all said, its the same, or close enough to not matter.

Those on the left don't think much of CNN. NPR is the news source. And not because NPR is liberal, but because it is the best place to get intelligent news coverage (without the blatantly biased commentary). And for programs like the Diane Rehm Show and Talk of the Nation, you'll get intelligent perspectives inserted from liberal and conservative sources.

Last time I checked, none of those other than CNN were available on Dish, so what anyone may or may not think about the non Dish entities is irrelevant to my comment.

Other than Newsmax, The Blaze on television. Or WorldNetDaily, Newsmax, Fox News, Washington Times, BretBrait, etc... etc... online, and the 12 to 16 or so hours of AM Radio programming available on two to fourstations in the local area. No where to turn?

Like the Blaze, Newsmax is a very long way from being a replacement for FNC.

Then complain to Fox for leveraging a channel you like in order to get better rates on unrelated channels.

I don't recall offering an opinion of FNC's programming one way or the other.

Scott has requested that we don't go into that in this forum.

No kidding! ;)

I wish all news channel will be off dish. Then we can have full time HD local sport network.

Ps local sport draws more viewers than Fox News. That is one of the reason why the NFL gets the big bucks

So much for coming to this thread looking for an update on the Fox news dispute.:(

Yea, it's a shame we have to wade through all the crap just to see that there's no news.

From our perspective, we've had several customers call to complain and quite a few are cancelling. I would not want to be a Dish CSR during this. Just had one guy who's gonna pay a hefty ETF and go to cable. :eeek

It's easy for you guys to say "bye" or "see ya" when people post that they are thinking about leaving. You don't get a share of Dish's bottom line. I doubt Dish shares your attitude though. If they did they wouldn't be handing out credits like candy.

It's standard mantra to hand out credits when a channel goes dark for a bit. That does not mean people are leaving. Folks don't want the bills to increase either, so its a catch 22 for Dish. They probably lose more customers when bills go up than they do for moving on from Fox News. And,as is confirmed all over the place, this is not really about Fox News, per se. It's about Fox bundling other channels with it. That is a biggeer deal.

And finally, I do own some shares in Dish, so I do get some of the bottom line....it's small, trust me, but it's not zero.

Just because it keeps coming up, I just went to Dish & Directs web page to get service for two rooms. I'm not counting the "introductory rate"

Dish
Top 120 $54.99
DVR Fee $12.00
Joey Fee $ 7.00
TOTAL: $73.99

Direct
Select PKG $49.99
Advanced Receiver $15.00
2 TVs $12.00
TOTAL: $76.99

Wow, there has been more excuse making for dish in this thread than any of the other dispute threads.

I don't see any excuse making, other than this is bigger than just Fox News, it has to do with bundling and how Fox has screwed Dish on other issues (i.e. Hopper frivolous lawsuits, hard core price increases on broadcast owned Fox channels, FSN channels, and the like.) Let's at least tell the true facts here.

If there were no price increases I'd side with Dish. But there will be. This time around I'll agree with you. Heck, Dish's quality department wont even fix a simple guide issue for a customer.

When I have had issues they have jumped right up to the plate. Not sure what you are speaking of.

well first off I know you have internet....and you have a way to see and reply on this forum......I bet you would find more out faster with the google???? So you think here scott will know before it gets released to major news outlets????? Go to fair and balanced web site....it will be there first, and there allways so very truthful.....

The Wall Street Journal reports that “there are currently no talks between the two companies.” Tim Carry, the Fox News executive in charge of distribution, said the deal rejected by Dish is the same one that other distributors have accepted. As for the status of the talks, he said, “I’m hearing nothing but crickets.”

Well Tim Carry can pick up the phone any time he wants to and negotiate. Instead he babbles b.s. through the media.

I cancelled Dish Sunday. Monday they emailed me with an offer - $25 off times 10 months with a 24 month commitment, plus 3 months free Cinemax & Starz. Not interested.

For me, it's like having multiple restaurants in town which serve a prime rib buffet. When one restaurant stops serving steak and substitutes hamburger because of a supplier dispute, do you continue to patronize them at the old price, and / or ask for a discount, or simply eat at the next place down the street?
Granted, it's not as easy as that because of the equipment involved with Satellite TV. But I'm taking the steps to make swapping easier in the future by leaving both dishes up and wiring in place where it differs between the two systems.

I've done this with my ISP. When the introductory rate goes away, I simply unplug my router from my DSL modem, plug it into my cable modem, and don't skip a beat.

Speak with your wallet, I always say.

and jumping around just allows Fox to get the upper hand in its schenanigans and your price goes up in the end. Sure you get all these promo specials and waste an afternoon and more. Is Fox really that one thing worth crying over? Apparently for you it is, which all I can say is "wow."

I'd bet that your post is more of the same... which has everything to do with confrontation and hate and nothing to do with news about this channel being off Dish.

Thanks for the contribution.

You want touchy feely representatives that make you feel good? Geez, what a farce....I want to pay the lowest I can, period.
