2014-15 NFL Play-Offs

Fast forward to October 2015: Peyton Manning will put up 370 yards with 5 TD's in a blowout win over Jacksonville. For the next week the Jim Nantzs and Phil Simms of the world will fawn over Mr. October calling him the Greatest QB of all time. Seriously, I for one am sick and tired of this happening EVERY FRIGGIN' YEAR even though we know how this story ends in January. Peyton Manning is one of the five greatest QBs of all time, but when you have NINE one and dones and your record is 2-5 AT HOME following a first round bye, this precludes you from ever sniffing GOAT status!! Period and end of discussion!! Admittedly I'm biased towards Tom Brady, but if for whatever reason you don't like Brady, fine. I lean towards Joe Montana myself RIGHT NOW, but that could change in three weeks. But Peyton Manning? Sorry, the window has closed on him to be considered GOAT. However, he is IMO, the greatest REGULAR SEASON QB of all time

I have all the respect in the world for Andrew Luck, who I think along Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson and a few others will be the face of the NFL over the next decade. I just don't think they match up well against the Patriots. Considering the two Championship Sunday venues are Foxborough and Seattle, I would be very surprised if we didn't have a Patriots-Seahawks Super Bowl.

As far as the four possible SB matchups go, I think Seattle would be favored over either NE (-3) or IND (-8), the Colts would be underdog to either SEA or GB(-6.5) and the Pats would be a slight favorite over GB (-2). Of course this is barring any major injuries coming out of Sunday.

I agree Bill. He's not the greatest of all time but at least top 5 sounds right. Nothing to be ashamed of about that considering the history of this league and the amount of Qb's that have played the game.

I've predicted this from the very beginning before the play-offs actually started. I also predicted that you won't see the football sailing past Tom Brady's head because of fan noise, unlike the last Super Bowl.:D However, the championship games DO have to play out first,so I really don't want to get ahead of myself until the Seahawks & Patriots ARE actually in the Super Bowl.

Like I said before,if the Patriots try the 4 linemen with a TE playing tackle play again, place a defensive linemen opposite the TE/faux tackle with a linebacker covering in reserve(might end up being the middle linebacker covering if the Patriots have 2 TE's side-by-side with one in the tackle slot). The defensive lineman can knock the TE/faux tackle flat on his @$$ & then continue on to the QB while the linebacker takes over coverage if & when the TE/faux tackle gets back up to complete his pass route. If the TE/faux tackle jumps out of the defensive lineman's way to run his pass, the linebacker can then cover him, while the DL says to himself,"Good one less obstacle in my way to the QB," carries on to the QB. Actually,it would look like a 3-4 defense would work better against this formation, which is why it was strange that the Ravens couldn't adjust when they first saw it. I don't know if the Colts use a 3-4 or 4-3 defense, but I do know that the Seahawks(sorry,I just don't see the Packers getting into the Super Bowl) play a 4-3 defense.

In sure they'd love just a linebacker on Gronk or a DL spread out wide just because the other ineligible is out there, making him run further to the QB.
Was the tackle slotted TE lined up in a spread formation or was he lined up next to the guard?,if he's in the spread, put the DL in the gap,one less obstacle to the QB. However the Pats can use this formation for running plays too, because the defense is concentrating too much on what that TE in tackle's clothing is going to do. The defense needs to listen closely to which player is called ineligible, they can set their LB accordingly then to the eligible receiver. As far as "not enough time to set up properly" goes, the LB has legs,he can run to where he's needed,I'm sure,in 7 seconds.

You also know what I meant with Gronk on Gronk(& a DL is not normally used to cover Gronk),place the player you'd normally use to cover Gronk,AND is it a NFL/football rule that the defensive players HAVE to line themselves up opposite of an offensive player(because I really don't know)? If not & the TE in tackle's clothing in spread out from the guard in a spread formation, then line up the DL in that gap to the QB.

Now I passively follow the Patriots, but I do believe that Tom Brady is famous for more than that. That's like saying that Aaron Rodgers is only famous for the "Discount Double Check."

Here's a question for debate, with Peyton Manning's status for next season in question,& with the uncertainty of Brock Osweiler being able to carry the mantle of leading the Broncos to another play-off berth with him at the helm,IF Marcus Mariota slides down in the draft............past Former Ducks' coach Chip Kelly & the Eagles, would it be smart for the Broncos to draft him(if he slides that far),& then see if they can talk Peyton to play at least one more season as "caretaker" until they feel like Mariota is ready to take over? Of course Mariota would have to slide past the Jets,Browns,Bills,Redskins,Cardinals,Rams,Titans,Jaguars,Bears.etc. before he can fall into the Broncos' lap.

Or if he slips past some, they could swing a deal and move UP.

But I like cheese.:((still cheering for the Seahawks though)

No Nirvana,no Pearl Jam,no Soundgarden,no Alice In Chains(sorry, that's the extent of my knowledge of Seattle Grunge bands.........the relevant ones anyway)?

Ok,my prediction for the teams going to the Super Bowl are the New England Patriots & the Seattle Seahawks. Is there anybody out there in their right mind who believes that the Indianapolis Colts will defeat the Patriots? I'd believe that the Packers will defeat the Seahawks before I believe the Colts will defeat the Patriots(I hope that doesn't doom the Pats). I say this because I believe that the Colts defense is the worse out of the four,AND,despite people's negative opinion about Peyton Manning in the play-off games that count,Andrew Luck is not (yet) Peyton Manning in his prime. Andrew Luck would be more like Eli Manning("How'd I get here?") if he somehow leads the Colts over the Pats to the Super Bowl.

Well, thats putting Andrew Luck in pretty good company, seeing Eli has won the SB.

IF the Colts had a Defense, they would have a chance ... I like Luck very much and think he'll eventually get to the SB, but he'll need a D to help out.

Saw an interesting stat today........since the 2001 season there's been 14 AFC Championship Games (including this season). Of the 28 quarterbacks to start in these games Tom Brady (9), Peyton Manning (4), Ben Roethlisberger (4) and Joe Flacco (3) have started in 20 of them. So basically, four QB's have dominated the AFC over the last decade and a half. The other QB's to start in an AFCCG over the last 14 seasons: Mark Sanchez (2), Kordell Stewart, Rich Gannon, Steve McNair, Jake Plummer, Philip Rivers and Andrew Luck (making his Championship Sunday debut this weekend).

Or it's like saying Ray Lewis is famous for getting away with murder

Interesting that there has been no discussion here about the west coast team hosting the early game tomorrow. A 12:05 local time start is the earliest ever for the Seahawks...

Fox and CBS have been alternating the 3:00pm ET and 6:30pm ET Championship Sunday windows for several years now (I believe they started this practice for the 2003 championship games). I think the reason they went to these windows in the first place was to avoid a situation like they had last year (NE at DEN and SF at SEA). Having the first game start at 3 ET means the earliest a game would start LOCAL time is 12 noon.
