I would scan my machine if I were you. (Or maybe try clearing your cache)

I logged in as you and seen you are using the SatelliteGuys Default look. No black bars down the bottom. Since 90% of the people here use the style I am sure I would get an earful if there was a black bar at the bottom.

Today it was nearly impossible to log on. Every time I tried, a ad would overtake my I Pad and take me somewhere else. After 5 attempts and ready to give up, it finally let me in. After I post this, I will attempt to go to the Dish Forums. I know when I do, the same thing will happen. I enjoy this site, but its a real burden just to log in and go to other threads. These ads make me not want to come here.

I have no problems with other sites I visit.

There is an easy way to take care of that. Become a pub member and all the ads go away! The site isn't free for the owner and it is quite expensive to keep the lights on.....
Doesn't work that way, when you are not logged on you get all the ads supporter or not.

Simple solution to that... LOG IN. :)

I have noticed that some ad networks replace ads with what they call Mobile Friendly Ads which do not fit in correctly for the space give to them. We unfortunately have no control over this.

After 12 attempts trying to respond from my I Pad and 4 attempts from my I Phone, I am now on my old Windows 7 PC. The ads would not let me in. I won I Phones, Fantasy Football and all kinds of stuff on my I Things. This old PC is giving me no issues with Satellite Guys. Should of tried this sooner. So obviously something is wrong with my I Things. So now I have to figure out why. I would rather use my I Things. The ball is now in my court. I will say it again. I have no issues with other sites I visit on my I Things.

The problem occurs BEFORE you can click on the Log In link. Like n0cqu said, these are some of the obnoxious, "Oh, you're on an iOS device so we're redirecting you to the App Store link for the sponsor's App" @#^$%@%# Ads. And you find that returning to Safari that the page resets with a chance that it kicks the cycle over.

What would the effect be of making the SatelliteGuys.US landing page devoid of Ads, and only start showing them after clicking on "enter the site"? Simplify the Home Page with some tempting content to entice the user to enter the site. If a Pub Member or SatelliteGuy logs in, it's business as usual.

Imagine what a new visitor thinks when they visit the site. If they're just looking for an answer to a problem they've encountered, they're not likely to register, let alone become a Pub Member. In the past, visitor data was posted and there was a HUGE number of one-time visitors (meaning, they never returned (unless they removed cookies)).

I just went to the site with Firefox, not logged in, and no ad-blocker. It was horribly slow to load and worse, it continually seems to be reloading (something). The tab in Firefox says "SatelliteGuys.US" for 1-2 seconds, then changes to "Connecting..." (for many seconds) repeatedly. It's still doing it over and over. Not sure if it's a coincidence or not, but the hard drive is spinning away now too. Nope, it wasn't a coincidence - Firefox is closed and the HDD activity suddenly stopped.

I agree completely -- had similar problems on multiple portable devices.

Exactly! Example: Last spring I found a guy on Craigslist with a Birdview dish who wanted to tell us about it here. He saw all the ads and said it was too much -- so he asked me (via email) to post it for him.

Just trying to help increase the number of members here and make it more inviting.

On my I Pad now and all is good. Don't know why.

When these problems occur, it don't matter if I'm logged in or not. Tried both ways. It was really bad earlier. No matter what I did, the ads took over. I finally gave up and fired up the old PC. Why did that work?

There is a lot of good info here. Just to hard to get to it.

I never had any ad issues on my iPhone or Android phone. I always use the app. On my PC, I'm always logged in, so I don't see any ads but one. I've actually been logged in for so long that I don't remember my password!

The only slight annoyance is that after switching to my android, the SatelliteGuys app will sometimes show one full-screen ad. Still, I'm not complaining.

I am to the point that I am going to turn my ad-blocker on for this site. Google analytics keeps reloading and making the site unresponsive. In fact, the google analytics NEVER
STOPS TRANSFERRING DATA on the bottom of firefox.

Both of you have a choice. The website is expensive to run. You buy in annually and get no ads. Or, continue as you are and put up with ads. BTW, Scott can, and might, dump you off if younuse AdBlock...

Is that an actual THREAT? I think that comes under the heading of Extortion, and you shouldn't say things like that. I think you should let Scott speak for himself.

NO site that I'm aware of stops people using ad-blockers from coming there. All that would accomplish is this site getting an even worse reputation. I personally do NOT believe Scott would block people in that situation.

Just my opinion...

I don't even know what ad blocker is. Can you be dumped if you use it ?

I just learned to deal with the ads. Before I can log in, I just keep X ing them off. After all this X ing, I finally can get in. Sometimes it will just let me in with no ads.

Some time in the past Scott actually said that.... It is not extortion. In order for this site to exist money needs to come in. That happens in two ways. Ads and site support. Will Scott do it? Probably not, he is too nice of a guy. But, if all the non-supporters went to ad blockers he's not going to have enough cash to keep going and we all lose.

even if you are a pub member the ad at the top (the google one) does keep running constantly. It use to not do that if you were a pub member. It was one ad and it didnt rotate. Now that may not bother most folks but when you are on a bandwidth constraint (I only get 2GB a month) each page refresh adds up (especially when you're here a lot) ;)
