Any purchase pricing for the Hopper 3?

Or just do the free upgrade.
Well yeah!
If you love Dish enough to spend a minimum of $500 on equipment why would you not just commit, and keep that $500 an invest it in somthing.
If I'm done with Dish , I certainly have no point in hanging on to their equipment I can't do anything with.
Except sell at a loss.

He had those in stock when they were normally released though. He got them in stock when dish said they would be available and when retailer had them. This whole Hopper 3 thing has me confused.

Yeah Solid S, yeah I saw them back when I was thinking of getting the setup, until I found out the 211s don't work with it.

I can't get over how badly people don't want to renew a contract. It's only 2 years or you pay a small ETF. Why even consider paying anything when most likely you would get everything you listed for free in an upgrade.

For my financial level, a potential ETF of $480 -- just to leave -- is a huge chunk to pay. And, in my case, I am not as thrilled with Dish's "user friendly" interfaces anymore. Their previous DVRs always seemed very easy & convenient to use. But the Hopper has some pretty user UNfriendly attributes that really turn me off. And, the fact that the Hopper has been out for several years now -- with no real improvements on those "attributes," makes me doubt that the new UI will be much different. To me, the only truly redeeming virtue of the Hopper is the massive 2T storage capacity.

I've looked at Comcast's DVRs and, from what I can see, their largest storage capacity is only about 1/4 as large.

But the whole idea of satellite TV is kind of going sour to me because I've never had a worse year (than 2015) with constant signal loss whenever some rain clouds pass overhead. Didn't seem to be this bad in years past when I had simpler duo-tuner DVRs from Dish. And, as far as I know, my dish is pointed correctly, the signal strength is good, etc.

Those are the main reasons why I, myself, would think long & hard before agreeing to another 2-year sentence. They would have to give me a really crazy deal. And I doubt that they would ever do that -- they have to send me a replacement Hopper because my current one has a bad hard drive. The tech who visited my house strongly suggested that I insist on a NEW machine instead of a refurbished one. Dish not only refused to guarantee this, but also tried to bill me $15 for shipping/handling of the replacement. That really angered me that they wanted ME to pay shipping charges because of THEIR defective machine. As you can probably tell, I rent my equipment instead of buying it. LOL

When I expressed my refusal to pay it, they agreed to waive the $15. But that gave me a shaky feeling about their present day customer service -- another reason why I might think about looking elsewhere when the time comes. I used to love Dish, but I don't have the same loyal feelings in their direction anymore.

There are a few things I have to say about this post.

The UI may not be for everyone and that's fine, you can't make everyone happy.

If your signal is going out that much then you have a problem that needs to be fixed.

Almost all equipment that goes out of refurbished and it's covered just the same as new equipment.

The shipping fee is part of their policy and has been for years. You wouldn't pay it and they waived it. That's good service there.

I don't know about the signal. When the tech was here a few weeks ago, he did not seem to think there were any issues regarding signal strength. My Mother, who lives in the same town, also has Dish and also frequently loses her reception even when the clouds are not really that bad. When they are thick and stormy, I can understand & accept when the signal goes out. But you do have a good point -- something I probably should ask them to come specifically to check on.

Can't agree about the shipping policy, though. If it is their automatic policy that a customer has to bear some of the financial responsibility for faulty equipment they gave me, it's all on them and not a penny on me. Just the fact that I had to argue with them, that they would automatically expect the customer to pay for their "mistake," is not acceptable to me.

So, I guess we can agree to disagree on that. LOL
 
It's the storm clouds a couple of miles south of your location blocking the signal, not the ones at your house.

I'm not a fan of the shipping policy either and have gotten it waived before too but the fact is we all know it ahead of time. It's made aware to all customers. It's a way for them to push their protection plan too.

I've usually had fair luck in getting discounts even while under contract, or at least good enough that buying just doesn't seem to make much sense to me. Of course, as always, YMMV.
