Official - I have a Hopper 3 Thread!

My Hybrid LNBF and Hub arrived on Tuesday, and I installed without issue. Hopper arrived yesterday, installed it last night and called to activate. All is working well. ONE MAJOR PROBLEM. I bought this from a retailer and did a self install, but my equipment status on my account says that it is leased! On the phone with a CSR right now, and they're demanding i fax my receipt. I would have to drive 20+ miles and pay to use a fax machine, I'm not doing that because of their error during install. They won't take an email forward for some reason. If they would just look into it, it's black and white. No upgrade request, no appointment, no contract renewal. Let's see, that would all have to happen for it to be a leased receiver and none of the above is true. Hopefully this is resolved by the time I'm off the phone. I shouldn't have to fax them my retailer receipt to prove it's mine, all the facts point to it being mine.

You should contact DIRT.

Looks like I'm going to get off the phone with this unresolved. They insist that I must fax my receipt and that it's the only way. They're also defending the employee last night saying they don't have the power to put in leased or owned, it's automatic. That's hogwash considering there is no way that it could have been automatically marked as leased. This is pretty aggravating

I have run into this problem once before with my 211 receiver. I use it for tailgating and only activate for football season. The second year I had it activated and tried deactivating at the end of the season I was told it was leased and they would send me an empty box. I explained to them how it was purchased and this is the second year I have activated it. The lady told me the only way she could change it to being purchased again was to fax her a receipt. Luckily I'm a retailer and sold it to myself so i could produce a receipt right away but I still thought it was terrible service for a problem on their end.

Every time I activate purchased equipment now I tell them at the beginning that I am activating purchased equipment. Then at the end when everything is up and running I confirm with them that the equipment is listed as purchased. I just did this with my Hopper 3 and I checked online to see if it was correct and it was.

I agree that it's their fault but if there aren't any notes on the account that you purchased it then that CSR has no way to believe you are telling the truth. If it was entered into the system as being leased then that's what they believe to be true. It's a huge pain.

I think that lately default to 'Leased' until you get it changed. Maybe DIRT could help you if you email them a scan of the receipt or something like that.

That's another one of my problems with the whole situation. I was very clear with them last night that it was purchased equipment. She's looking further into it after I said that it's bull that they're going to make me spend money out of my pocket to prove their mistake.

That means that when Dish says they want the remote back they don't really mean it? I don't like to have any misunderstandings with the customer at all so I tell them to do what Dish says. :)

Like Scott said, that would be nasty selling used remotes. At least Dish reconditions them before they go back out.

I've always told my customers to keep their remotes if they want them. First, why would they want a used remote? Second, how do they know that the original didn't break and you purchased a new one?

For future reference I recommend using the online chat to activate your equipment and then you can copy of print the conversation as proof.

Mark from DISHDEPOT should be able to help you with this.

Good Idea. So they reluctantly said on the phone that they went ahead and updated it. It hasn't changed on my account, but they did say it could take 24-48 hours, so we'll see.

I will have my H3 upgrade next week. How can you tell the difference from HDMI 2.0 versus old HDMI cable? Does H3 require HDMI 2.0 cable even though it is limited to 1080i for now?
I don't know if you can. I don't even know if they are 2.0 anyway. They just say "High Speed" like the prior ones. I would not use them with 4K TVs just in case they aren't 2.0. The ones I have are already are 2.0 which I replaced a few months ago when I got my 4K TV for the basement. So I just told him to use what I had and not to use the new Dish HDMI cables.

UPDATE: It now shows as purchased on my account. I ended up getting a call from a supervisor apologizing for the miscommunication on their end and how long I had to be on the phone. That was nice, never had that happen before with a CSR call with any company. All is well in the world now, crisis averted ;)

I've found Dish Company installers never ask for the remotes and leave all the contents from opened on the premises boxes with the customer. However, I've found that, in my large metropolitan area where people aren't as "nice" as our friends in rural areas, far more often, it is the contractors who want your remotes and do not leave contents of the opened on the premises boxes with the customer, as if they are trying to appropriate as much free parts/accessories that Dish intends for the customer, not the contract installers.

My installer left the boxes here but asked for remote. I had 2 purchased extra 4.0 remotes to I retained those. Those nice color buttons are nice to have and the H3 works just great with the old remote as well as the new one.

How do you restore your timers? Did you have to do this manually or what?

Rather simple... Try to get as many timers on your main 40.0 remote and back them up before you upgrade to the H3. Pair the new H3 remote then go into Settings a pair your 4.0 remote as well. Under Diagnostics/Tools there is a restore settings (2nd on the left side). Press it with your old remove and say OK to restore the old remote settings. It will reload all the timers in your old remote, but be warned it will also reboot the H3. Worked fine for me.

Got my Hopper 3, 4K Joey, and Super Joey. Installer started at 11:30, finished up around 2:30. He installed a new dish, and found a problem with one of the connecting boxes up on the roof - hence the reason for the extra time. Install went flawlessly and yes, takes some time to download updates, but no glitches / issues so far.

He took the old remotes, but left me one for the 4K joey since he was having problems pairing it with the new one.

Zippier, cleaner interface. Plus netflix integration is nice. Will be using DishAnywhere with the ipads.
