HWS U203 Bug Reports

Until Dish releases details that say what was fixed in U204, it's silly to have a new thread, in my opinion. Many, many of the issues or bugs seen in U202 and U203 likely still exist in U204.

The issues that I noticed on U202 and U203 (apps very slow to load, HWS S529 DVR recordings not showing up on HWS U204, etc.) are still there. So you are right.

Well, I think it would cause less confusion to keep the issues for the different versions separate. I am still on S529 or if I got the latest version I would start another thread for it.

Where do you find the DISH release details that say what was fixed in a software version update?

You don't

Strange that they wouldn’t release at least some of the details surrounding the beta software. How do they expect anyone to actually test anything??

Even a company as large as Apple has started including release notes of some of the fixes so that users can test and know that major bugs have been resolved.

I would hope to see Dish eventually follow suit. At least during beta testing to ensure valid feedback.

I completely agree with you. Maybe when DISH have all their additional new software employees set up someday they will release notes for their software updates and fix bugs quicker too.

Dish didn't ask us to beta test. They're allowing users to force the download of this software but we're more or less on our own.

I'm certain that the real beta testers are told what they fixed and to test those things and make sure. Those people are not allowed to discuss any details though.

They used to provide some details but stopped doing it a few years ago. I don't expect them to change this policy, nor do I care if they do. If I run into a bug, when a new s/w version comes out, I can check if they fixed it myself. I don't need to read that they did (or didn't). :p

Besides, when they did give details, it usually only covered 1-2 "major" items and the third listing was almost always "Other misc fixes".

WOW, I did not know DISH use to provide some details for new s/w versions when they came out. I newer saw them but I have only been with DISH since 2007. Maybe with the additional software employees they will start to do that again.

I understand they didn’t ask. Neither did Apple ask when they are releasing a new iOS update. However, they started including small release notes in their updates and it has increased customer satisfaction in that people feel their issues and voices are being heard. The buffer app is another example of that happening.

Facebook is an example of an app that has actually stopped including release notes of what had been updated in the app. As a result, users are voicing more frustrations more frequently, and new features are being missed (since there isn’t anything there talking about it).

I understand your viewpoint. But, I would urge dish to start including information about the fixes somewhere (not security detail fixes - just consumer fixes and updates) and I can tell you that the quality of their software will definitely improve. As well as their customers view of Dish.

I was just curious... did you try the hopper to hopper transfer and this is why you have the same problem? I wanted to see what it was about and thought it would give me a chance to hit "ok" before starting the transfer. I was wrong. Now it seems like it wont quit. I wake up in the morning and I don't know what recordings are going to be on each hopper. I wish I could just reset it back to factory with the new UI. I wonder if anybody else has done this mistake?

Yes I did. I did it on both. Since then, I did a factory reset on both. After getting all of my settings to what I want, I noticed that the move of everything from HWS 1 to HWS 2 stopped. However, even stranger, I now have HWS 2 copying 1 recording to HSW 1 over and over again.

Found a bug with OTA channels. you can't edit channels to eliminate some. It will go through the motions but does not change the guide. Channels will still be there

Same here. I actually had channels already removed from the OTA list, did a rescan, and saved the list. The channels I had removed should have added back but weren't.

Now, what does that mean when your market gets a new OTA channel? You can scan and receive it but will it end up in the guide?
Noticed something (it happened on previous versions too but I didn't keep as good a track of it) after you scan OTA channels. When you hit "Save", it seems to think you are instead cancelling or backing out of the menu. It pops up a dialog that reads
Confirm Navigation 1516
Do you want to save your changes before continuing?

You can return at any time...
Yes / No
That dialog would be appropriate if you did things in the menu and forgot to hit Save, so it's reminding you. Nonetheless, even selecting "Yes" still doesn't save changes you just made.

Now I'm curious what happens to a user that has never scanned in OTA channels and has the new interface ? I suspect they can't add channels at all.

I guess the software is lining up with the hopper 3 . U304 was released and U204 was also released. Maybe it's not a beta anymore.

I've been saying that all along. I don't find it coincidental that they're lined up like this.... It would really be interesting to know if each build is more or less identical (obviously with the major stuff missing for the Hopper w/Sling).

That said, U204 may still be considered "beta" by Dish but at least they appear to be trying to keep them close to each other.

I agree. Both the hopper 2 and 3 both seem to be close to each other at this point. Heading into the future updates I would assume that the only difference will be the limitations of the hardware in each box ,tuners and 4 k Video
