I don't know if this is another glitch, but I was watching one of the Lethal Weapon movies tonight and thought I'd record a video clip of a funny scene that had just taken place. So I backed up the live showing to slightly before this scene began and pressed record. But when I check on it later, it did not begin recording from the start of that scene -- seems like it started recording it maybe 20 seconds after that and kind of ruined it.

My original HWS (with the old UI) seemed to do the same thing, so I'm not sure if it's just a flaw with the Hopper design or if it's the UI's.

In any case, it seems like, in years past, if you pressed the record button in the middle of a program, it would automatically jump back to the start of the program (or to whenever the channel was tuned in) and record the rest. But, in recent years, this was changed so that the recording begins at the live moment that the record button is pressed. Am I wrong about this?

You are right and I hate it: That was the first thing I noticed about the Hopper which is what I started with when I came here from DTV. I had previously been accustomed to picking up the entire program no matter when I hit "record".

On the Hopper, I admit, I don't know how it works, nor do I ever seem to get it right. On the 622/722/722k, if you hit record in the middle of a program, it would (sometimes ?) pop-up a menu with (3) choices, as I recall. One of them was to record from the beginning. Now, that would only work if you happened to have been watching the show from the beginning.

Is the resume button issue fixed if you go back to the recording after it has finished recording? Or, do you have to start over?

IIRC you have to start over if you go back to it after it finished recording. I don't think that's changed.

I guess I cant expect the Hopper to record part of a stream that wasnt there but it would be nice to have the option to record back from the beginning of whatever is actually there. That was true of hardware that I had almost 10 years ago.

WOW, I sure hope it has. DISH DVRs is the only DVRs that I know of that has that issue. I just heard from a member friend that tested it on his Hopper 3 and it sounds like DISH may have updated the feature so the resume is still there where you left off viewing recording while it was still recording.

I've tried everything - I have numerous recordings that will not play back. When I select the thumbnail, it takes me to the next screen where I normally have several selections in the lower left corner (start over, resume, delete) - they aren't there at all. Also the "you might also like" thumbnails across the bottom of that screen cannot be selected. I can select and play these recordings from my H2K (old UI) and Joey1 (Carbon).

I need to "fess up" here - some of the "bugs" I thought I found are actually due to the fact that the HWS (with Carbon) isnt talking to the H2K (without Carbon) - I eventually realized that the thumbnails I was trying to play back belong to recordings that are on the other Hopper - hence "not available".

I could be wrong about that Charles. If it's that way on the H3 it's probably the same on the HWS with the new UI. They're very, very similar. :)

You are probably right. I just checked on the H3 and it has a Resume button so the HWS with the new UI should work the same. The H3 and HWS CUI are very, very similar.

I'm fairly certain it would give you the option to record as much as possible, even if it didn't go back to the beginning. It's been 3+ years since we had the 722k though and even then, it didn't seem to work 100% everytime. The workaround I knew was to rewind back as far as possible, hit Play, and then Record. In my experience, that never worked on the Hopper though. It effectively ignored the location that you were at in the program and started recording "live" TV, as in, where you were before you rewound.

hmmmm..... it almost seems like the Hopper DID at one time record from wherever I rewound to, but come to think of it, that hasn't been the case more recently. Maybe something to do with new firmware updates?

U203 Bugs/Issues so far...

Paging the guide is rather slow and choppy.
Hopper won't respond to remote and eventually does a reboot.
Sometimes guide program info on right side of screen doesn't populate.

I recall past times when a Dish DVR automatically jumped to the beginning of a program being watched (or to the first point when the channel was changed to it) to record it. And other times where it was changed to record from the spot where the record button was pressed.

All in all, I believe the Hopper is a great idea served by very poor performance. I kind of miss the old dual-tuner Dish DVRs that I used to have. Didn't seem to have so many issues. With the Hopper, however, I do live the vast hard drive, the many extra storage folders offered by the CUI, etc.

But still a lot of flaws with the Hopper, especially since it's been out for several years now.

Found a bug with OTA channels. you can't edit channels to eliminate some. It will go through the motions but does not change the guide. Channels will still be there

Sometimes I feel like we are always and forever, ongoing "beta-testers" - too bad we don't get a discount for our services :)

Same here. I actually had channels already removed from the OTA list, did a rescan, and saved the list. The channels I had removed should have added back but weren't.

Now, what does that mean when your market gets a new OTA channel? You can scan and receive it but will it end up in the guide?

Tried to do the button combo yesterday it downloaded something turned it on today everything looks the same. Did I do something wrong?
