Hopper 3 users...how is the new 52.0 remote vs. the old 40.0?

Been 3 weeks with 52s,
effort applied to use 52s exclusively for accommodation.
I appreciate the size and sturdy feel.
I can find the buttons in the dark and know the layout.

BUT, my biggest issue, which has always been Dish's strong point, INTUITIVITY.
The 52 is not as intuitive as the 40.
Best example is;
40 DVR button, top-center of dvr actions (ff,skip,rew,etc).
52 DVR button, top-row near guide/search/info.
It lacks many simple/single button actions as noted by others

The installer took most-all our 40s...
I contacted DIRT and 40s are being sent to me.

Tried out the 52 for just a few... But I prefer the 40 remote and put the 52 in a drawer and probably won't ever use it

After a couple of weeks, the remote is mostly nice, I like the feel and it looks premium.

My complaints are the combined skip and ffwd buttons require a press and hold to get certain functions. Also wish the H3 auto jumped back 10 seconds when you come out of ffwd, where right now I hit play, and then hit a 10sec skip back.

I use my Harmony 650 instead, everything is customizable and I don't have a bunch of buttons that do literally nothing.

Its either the remote or unit but the Joey2.0 with the 40 remote was much better. The 4k joey and 40 remote sucks in range. Anyone else experience this?

From live TV press "Home" three times from the 52.0 remote. This should land on the diagnostics screen. On the 40.0 press and hold SAT until you here the pairing tone.

I have a harmony one that was purchased for the wife, I personally can't stand the feel of the harmony remotes (my second one). Would much rather use the dish/tv/AVR remotes.

The 650 has a little different feel. I think it feels much like the 40 remote, but with more functions available.

We hate the 52's stuck them in drawers. If you call dish and complain they will send the old ones back.

For those that have had the new Hopper 3 system installed, how does the new remote (52.0) compare to the old Hopper/Hopper with Sling remote (40.0)? At first glance, it seems that it is less functional since it has fewer buttons, especially the four colored buttons, but without a Hopper 3 system, I can only ask for all of your input.

Also, I remember reading somewhere that when the new 52.0 remote is paired to the Hopper 3, the interface and all the menus are adjusted to represent the use of this particular remote. Does that affect those that also have a 40.0 remote paired to the Hopper 3?

I hated the new remote for a couple of very specific reasons.
1. I use the CC button (Green) a LOT. With the new remote, you have to go through the OPTIONS menu. Just a couple of clicks, but definitely not as convenient.
2. I use the SWAP button to channel surf. (Put a show on hold, go to the other tuner and then swap back after it's built up enough hold time to skip commercials.) With the old remote, it's a single button. The new remote requires that I go through the PIP menus. Big pain.
3. I use the aspect ratio/zoom button (* button on old remote). New remote? Option menu.
4. I was never able to get the stop button to work on the new remote. (Supposedly, press and hold the pause button. Didn't work for me. Not sure what I was doing wrong.)

I was initially pretty thrilled with the pared down, efficient remote, but got more and more frustrated. I've gone back to the old remote on all 4 TVs. Now, can't say anything bad about the Hopper 3. Incredibly fast. MUCH better picture. MUCH better sound.

Thats because that isn't a function of the pause button. To stop you need to press select and and use the right arrow and move to the stop and the press select.

The 'Input' button on the side of the 52.0 remote does Swap.

Everyone in the house loves the new remote. Took 2 days to get used to. Had many Directv and Dish remotes over the years. This one is the best.
As with every remote you just need time to memorize the buttons and locations. give it time.

Excuse me, but that's pure stupid design. A step too far. People wanting a simple remote no doubt understand the STOP button.

Thank God I've been using Harmonies since I moved past the 301s on to the 721!

I have been very happy with my Harmony 880s, Harmony one and the 650 (except for the marginal "select" button- but, oh so cheap)!

If you have a home theater set up, a remote like a Harmony is almost a MUST. Teaching SWMBO and MiL how to operate multiple remotes - raise gun slowly to head, outdoors, and.....

But I'll admit, I do tend to revert to the Oppo remote for DVDs and BDs.
