Dish announced today their call center in Alvin TX will be closed. 550 people work at the facility. They will be offered positions elsewhere in the company.
This is a common business practice. So why post this thread?...
The reason given is Dish executives believe they are doing so well with customer service, they no longer need all of their call centers.

So I click on the link, an article appears, immediately followed by a dialog box saying congrats I have been selected to win an iPad etc. press ok to continue. No other option. No X to close the box.

A drive by.

yeah it opens fine for me, but I have admuncher installed
It opens OK for me too without the ad issue, but I like to print articles to read. So I clicked on the site's print button and it would not print unless I joined their site. So, I clicked on my browser print button to get around that and when I check print preview it wants me to log in first. Go figure, had to read it on my monitor. Anyway, I am from San Antonio and it was sad to see all those job loses in the Houston area.

Based on the other people's experience, you may have blown your chance at a free iPad. ;)

Maybe an iPhone - AT&T combination?

Who knows the reason. Sad part is 90% of my friends work here including my wife. No severance package. The closest elsewhere is 8 or so hours away.

I wonder if they don't really need the csrs , but they just plan on having people talk to foreign csrs or just wait on the lines longer for help. Either way it won't help them in the top 10 hated companies in America list. DISH ranks in the top 10 every year for most hated customer service to do business with.
