I have two HWS, getting ready to replace them with an H3. My problem is that one of the HWS will not recognize an EHD so I can xfer my recordings.

I've tried two external drives. Both work fine on the 2nd hopper. Tried reset and unplugging. Tech support was not able to offer any other suggestions.

Was hoping someone here may have another solution.

Thanks

Kent

2 thoughts.
1: move using dish anywhere
2: under diagnostics - tools there is restore shows from another hopper. (Need ethernet cable)

I had the same problem with my Hopper 3 not seeing my EHD from my 722K. The only way I could get the old EHD to work was to
re-format the drive on my computer and then let the Hopper 3 format it. I lost about 20 recordings I had archived. I wasn't to happy and
I know that's not what you want to hear. I tried all 3 USB ports with no luck. I tried new USB cables and still no luck.

I ended up buying a new USB 3.0 hard drive also. The new drive is my primary EHD. I have the old drive connected but I will probably
take it off since I bought a new drive. The new drive is about 4 times faster than the old drive. An hour long HD show takes about 3 minutes to
transfer. The same show takes about 10 minutes to transfer.

My drive is recognized, but when I delete recordings on the EHD the program image remains with the message at the bottom that it was deleted. So far no issue with
transfer or watching from the EHD.

New install today. Tried hooking Seagate 1TB drive to the USB ports but H3 showed no indication of recognizing that the drive was connected. Everyone told me that the drive should work right away with out reformatting the drive. My daughter will be ticked off if she loses her 200+ recordings. I had been assured that they would be available and told her that. She is high functioning autistic so reasoning with her is a Huge problem. Anyone offer some positive outcome to this dilemma? TIA, Gary

Try all 3 ports. Also if it's a new install others will suggest waiting a couple days for it to settle in.

Possible but not probable. The answer probably has to do with power supply of the usb port unless the ehd has its own power supply.
Yes the EHD does have its own power supply as required by Dish network. I ordered 3 cables off Ebay to try. Thanks for your input.

EHD issue update. Received cables and connected one of them between the H3 and the external drive. Nothing happened. Called Dish Tech Support, trouble shooted all three USB ports, nothing. Dish sent a reset signal to my hopper. Now the external hard drive activity indicator blinking like crazy. No pop ups that the hopper recognizes that the drive is attached. Dish tech sent trouble ticket to support team about this issue and to get a ETA for a fix to be put out. I was told that employees at Dish had given the equipment a test run before release to the public. This particular event was not tested though. I was told to followup in about a week. I am hopeful but not totally optimistic a solution will be found short of reformatting the drive. I am still being told that the drive as formated for my H2 will not need to be formatted again.

I have 2 ext hard drives connected to my HWS. Both in the back panel. I had to wiggle the usb cable many times to get it to connect and format the drive on the bottom usb port. I could not get the front usb port to work on the ext hard drive at all, but connected the OTA tuner to the front port and it worked immediately.

I love how you will abbreviate HWS, USB and OTA but spell out EHD. :) the brain is an odd thing sometimes.
