have you ever found yourself flipping between playoff games during commercials to check out how your team’s rival is doing? Or maybe you’re watching a movie, and you want to find out how the game is going… Or perhaps you just want a quick weather or news update. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could watch two shows at once instead of flipping between channels and risking missing something? With the DISH Hopper DVR, you can. Here are some of the ways you can watch two shows at once with the Hopper.

That's nice.

Only wish someone would come up with a way to see more than two channels at a time. Three or four would be cool, but don't think it is possible yet. Someday...

I just wish when doing side by side... Both channels would take up half the screen... But I don't think it's possible is it... Usually it's two boxes with black on the top and bottom

It needs to be that way to maintain the proper aspect ratio.

I liked abusing the Sports Bar Mose last night for turning all four screens to all four networks to monitor the severe weather outbreak in Oklahoma.
I was always informed with what I wanted to know without changing channels.

Quite a breakthrough. Can you change channels without getting up out of your seat on the Hopper? Now that would really be something.

I believe you still have to holler at the kids to flip the dial. Maybe they'll come out with one of those remote controls for it soon :)

What would be a really nice addition to the side to side viewing would be to able to hear one channel over the Bluetooth connection and the other over the speakers. My wife and I want to watch two shows at the same time. Right now, she goes upstairs or we have to record one while the other watches the shows. Problem is that there are times where each of us do not follow the others show.

A great feature would be the ability to listen to the left (or right, who care) picture on the paired Bluetooth earbuds and play the other side through the AVR system. At a decent volume, there should be no crossover and we can both watch our shows together at the same time. We have a 69" Plasma so each screen is very viewable.

So, can Dish put this in a future wish list? I think a lot of people would use it instead of just listening to one show while just seeing the picture on the other and having to switch?

What you all think? Good idea?

What will they think of next! Television from outer space? Computers in the home (of course, you'd have to have a BIG home for one to fit). Why, I'll bet one of these days, they'll have a telephone without a cord, you can go anywhere in the house or even out in the yard. Might even come out with a telephone you can put IN YOUR POCKET and carry around where ever you go, no... That's just plain nonsense :)

Not trying to be a bubble burster, but don't think as many people as you think would use it. One reason is that a LOT of people do not have the luxury of a 69"(!!) TV like yourself. Many are still rather small in comparison to where side-by-side would be brutal to watch in your scenario where two people are watching at the same time. As opposed to what PIP is really intended for. Think many people, myself included, would get too distracted watching two shows running.

The bigger issue is control. What if one person wants to watch a DVR event and the other live TV (or even both recorded events). How would you control each side independently? You would have to annoyingly keep grabbing the remote to switch control to one side to skip commercials, rewind if you missed something or pause if you had to get up for something.

With multiview that would be even worse. Look, I love my wife and family but don't need to be sitting with other people squinting to watch their shows on one TV! Long live multiple TV households and man caves!
