Since I have direct experience with the changeover from my HWS to the H3, I don't think I will trust you on the speed issue. Especially since it is the first thing people commented positively when they first hit the street. Usually followed by noting the HDPQ was better.

TiVo is struggling as they try to figure out how to keep their doors open in case you hadn't noticed.

D* is in the process of bringing out something to replacing the old tech they now have. Lots of conjecture and guessing about what it might end up being. Hopefully att won't let them just yet again gussy up the sow's ear.

And while you can add many non-genies hr's to an installation, you can only have one Genie. A multiple HR plus one Genie is. Royal PITA to deal with as you shuffle around the house picking one to put a time on because the Genie is out of tuners. Been there done that.

The extra features that you seem to think don't matter, very well do matter to many of us. For me the 4K support was the biggie, plus the additional tuners. Note that I can do 4K without having to use a 2nd box because the main one doesn't actually do 4K. And I don't get to pay an extra fee for that 2nd box.
We can argue this till we are blue in the face.
It's really not worth it.
Talk to me when Dish adds a net customer.
Then we'll say it was because of the H3.

Because obviously being the claimed lowest-priced provider isn't working.

DIRECTV, their technology allows customers to add additional HRs leased.
Dish allowed 2 leased Hoppers only, now wonder they had so many complaints by family's that were 4 or more.
You Mr Parsons are a unique situation, most 1 room homes are not recording 16 things at the same time.
I had 11 tuners with Directv and the most my family of 4 ever recorded at once was 6 shows at the same time.

I've had 2 opportunities to upgrade to the H3 for free, and turned it down twice.
Sure lots of the tech savvy guys always demand far more than needed.
But as a current customer, I'm not 100% sold.
Dish still didn't net a customer with 2 full months of the released H3.
There are far more things Dish could have invested in their business then The H3.
A simple restructuring of their Hopper fees, and a technology that would have allowed more expansion for the larger family's that didn't cost a customer hundreds of dollars upfront, and Additional monthly lease fees.

The H2s are Very good machines.
Why not invest back into our programming, or how about capacity. How about less disputes that don't come right down to the wire on what seems to be a monthly basis.

Believe me the H3 is nice, and if 4K is your thing, you have no choice.
But the HWS's are fast, and a receiver can only perform so fast.
Maybe you guys had something wrong with your H2s.
You guys all said the same thing about the H1 and H2, I had them side by side for 6 months, and IMO the performed identically.

As I noted, I don't use 16 tuners, but I do use more than even the HWS+SuperJoey allowed for on occasion. That alone was worth upgrading to the H3. I was on the HWS and then the H3 within an hour and noticed that the H3 was nearly instantaneous compared to any other HDDVR from any provider.

As to costs, well again you seem to be unaware of what upfront costs and fees are out there. With Dish you can expand to a larger installation that will cost you more upfront and each month thereafter. With D* the very same issue sticks its head up. The only 'free' install for a multi-room is a single Genie plus some minis. Any other setup costs more upfront, I believe the last figures I had showed adding HRs to the mix was at $199 a pop upfront. With the H3 you can use more Joeys effectively than you can Genie+Minis, and that's because of the tuners.

In families I know that have satellite in multi-room setups, your tuner use would be considered a non-starter as they use more than that now.

As to the business side of things. I don't care whether Dish adds or loses subs, if their stock price goes up or down or any of the other things that don't affect how it all works. Those are not my problems, they are Dish's. And while I wish for less contentious renewal of contracts I also see the handwriting on the wall. More contentious is most likely what we'll all see regardless of provider.

For programming, well I can't imagine a single channel that I would watch that is missing from Dish's lineup. It would be nice if all were HD, especially the premiums, but as long as I can do VOD in HD for almost everything it really doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. At this point in time, there is nothing that cable, tivo, D* could do that would entice me to switch again. The H3 is the game changer IMO!

Yep, we could argue till the cows come home! :) And that is part and parcel of forums like this. Healthy discussion, agreements and disagreements and help along the way.

And why do you care if Dish adds customers? Are you a stock holder? Because if you are not, it shouldn't matter to you at all. I know it doesn't matter to me as anything other than something to discuss.

And you have your Opinion and I have mine.
A game Changer IMO? Nope
Still same old Dish.

Customers are also affected if a company is not growing, Businesses don't want to report losses, so in order to make do with less , well you know what happens.

As far as Stock well let's just say I'm invested in enough stock to know numbers mean everything.

Yes, I know what happens when businesses report losses, or at least I used to. Ever since the tech bubble of a few years ago you have to wonder though. I see some companies with losses every year yet their stock goes nuts and some very profitable ones with stocks in the doldrums. Thankfully I got out of that particular casino a few years back and don't regret it. I suppose I could have stayed in and made more money, but why? I don't need more money, so why put up with chasing it?? :)

At the moment with satellite and cable struggling to figure out how to keep subs and stay profitable, it can be frustrating for them. Us older folks keep doing mostly what we've been doing, so I suppose we are the stable part of their market. The younger folks keep wanting to watch on tiny screens while crossing the street against the light. Going to be interesting going forward to see how the content providers adjust to the shifts in those sands.

You don't have to be so damn nasty while defending your minority opinion. Go take your medicine.
If you can't handle it that your precious feelings where hurt over a hopper 3 then don't start it. Fact is the hopper 3 still has some serious issues which others besides me have noted.

Not to get in the middle of this but I would have upgraded to the H3 just to get rid of the 1 am reboot. :)

Everything else is frosting, very tasty frosting.

U206 in the H2s don't have 1 am reboots.
It exactly the same as the H3.
Only updates in standby mode.

Yea, you and about 2 others that have been perpetually whining because the thing isn't perfect. I don't know of anything that's perfect. It's pretty sickening actually, and with your newly found nastiness you are rapidly becoming not worth it. Still haven't taken your medicine, eh. You should do that right away.

Lol yeah ok. That quote was some whining alright.

I've posted about 3 to 4 times about hopper 3 issues. I don't whine about it or care that much which is why I said it wasent much more than a hws with more tuners at this point. The op can install what he wants. I simply don't care that much about tv but clearly you do. Personally I find it hilarious you get so upset when a few have a different opinion about your precious H3. If it burns you that bad maybe go look in the mirror, lose your dish cheerleader outfit, and have a nap? Get over it, it's a receiver and not that important.

No, your post overstates problems, unfairly discouraging upgrades. The vast number of Hopper3 early adopters have had a similar experience to mine - a stable and remarkable DVR.

Glad that's your experience. It's not mine and not others. Everyone uses theirs differently so it's not like one size fits all. For what I use it for it has some serious issues which I haven't even gotten into because it's not worth it to take the time. The h3 will be great in time but not yet.

My opinion doesn't matter anyways. The op can take it or not it's his call. I will admit the more bent out of shape you guys get and attack me over thinking I'm jealous I don't have a h3 is making me smile....
