Why did you choose Dish over DirecTV?

I am about to be a new Dish custom. They're coming this weekend to set me up. I did a couple of weeks worth of research (including reading lots of this forum) and chose Dish over DirecTV. I am curious, about the rest of you. Why did you choose Dish over DirecTV? Since I have not lived with either before, (currently TWC) I guess I'm hoping to hear that Dish has better quality, better equipment, and better customer service. I hope that the picture is better and that the graphics and user interface are better. I guess, hoping that you all reinforce that I made the correct choice for my family.

I am about to get two of the Hopper 3s. I'm also getting about a half a dozen Joey's 2.0. Apparently, they have to put two different satellite dishes on my roof to accommodate both of the hoppers. Hopefully, I'm also geting the new remote controls with voice search. I believe that's what comes with the Hopper 3's now.

Dish and Directv both offer a good reliable service. Love my h3, couldn't imagine having another dvr at this point. The Joey 2.0 is not as fast as the h3 but is more than adequate for the whole home system.

No, you are not getting two Hopper 3's. (two HWS, maybe?). Only one per account, period. Sorry you are under a misconception.

You must have one big a$$ house. Unless it has changed, I didn't think they would activate more than one Hopper 3 per account, last I knew you had to have two accounts (I thought).
I chose Dish because of the equipment and that is why I stay. I used the HR24, HR34, and H44 from DirecTV and they were "OK" but nothing compared to the Hopper 2 and especially the Hopper 3.

Maybe he is, maybe he isn't, but it does seem odd. Doesn't make sense given what most have been told about multiple H3s, but at least one other person has posted along the way that managed to get two H3s installed/activated by having two dishes. In the case of this OP, why would they infer that he needs two dishes if they are only planning to install two HWS? There would be no need for multiple dishes in that case. Either way, be interesting to see how this one plays out!
 
Actually, yes we are getting two hoppers. I told them I wanted two separate DVR's. We do have a large house, with a total of ten televisions being connected. Basically, one DVR is for my wife and the rest of the family, and one DVR is just for me. That is why I am getting two dishes and basically two accounts. I didn't get the impression from customer service that this was all that unusual.

I like the Dish DVR's better than the Directv DVR's. Also seems to be more flexibility with the packages and I like what Dish has to offer in their AT250 with the encore thematic channels included.
 
Hey welcome to Dish. I have installed houses with huge setups like yours . Prepare to get to know my fellow installer, as ten rooms may take most the day depending on cabling. hopper locations must have 3Ghz cable to survive imo.
As for the new 50.0 voice remotes, you will be able to get those, they do not come with the receivers but you can purchase them for 30.00 a piece . They work with either Joey 2.0 or Hopper 3/ 4K Joey.
Next I would suggest making sure you have your Hopper connected to Broadband to enable VOD and Netflix options, for better viewing.
And lastly thanks enjoy , and give the Hoppers 24 hours to settle and update/download before getting anxious. It's a great receiver.

I went with Dish back in 1999 when I could get LA locals in Oregon and the Super stations. We owned a home in Rancho Mirage CA and there we had LA locals. Since none were on spotbeams at that time, and we owned the house there, we just used that address. It worked fine until LA locals went to spotbeams in 2003. The Super stations was another reason I wanted Dish. I had them with my big dish for years and they no longer were available with the big dish. Direct no longer had the super stations and Dish also had some other channels that Direct did not have. I bought my 2700 and Dish300 and installed it myself. There were no installers for Dish around here then. Since I installed my big dish, hooking up Dish was easy. I was so impressed with Dish that I decided I wanted to stay with them, and since I do not believe in leasing, I have always purchased and installed my own Dish equipment, went to Dish 500 in 2000, then hooked up a wing dish, then in 2011 moved to the 211k and HD. Even though I have had my complaints, Dish is still my favorite provider out there, so I stay with it. I don't even know if I could purchase Direct TV's equipment and install it myself. Someone said Direct would never allow that.

Multiple Hoppers (other than the Hopper 3) are not unusual. I would think that two separate accounts in one household was. I say that, because I don't think Dish is doing very many installations where a customer wants to, or can, pay two full price bills every month to Dish.

Does DISH give any kinda price break if a customer has two accounts at the same address?

Better equipment. Can't say much about the Hoper interfaces, but I like the older Dish interface better than what I've seen of DTV (like when I rent a cabin and they have DTV)

In the past better customer service, though it's not what it once was.

Consensus seem to be Dish has better SD picture, but DTV has better HD picture.
But comparing Dish HD to Blueray on my plasma I have no complaints about Dish HD picture.
 
I went with Primestar first in 95 when we moved to this mobile home park. Then in 96 went with DISH over DIRECTV because you could get superstations that provided you with UPN and WB back then. I wanted them because of Star trek Voyager. We had been seeing the shows on our local CBS affiliate ,but they decided not to carry it anymore, so I went with DISH. Stayed with them ever since. Love the cutting edge hopper ,bugs and bad ota feature and all. But I know it will be worked out between now and the end of the year.... HOPEFULLY.:amen
 
To answer your question. I was a long time DirecTV subscriber and was very happy with them. Until a guide update crippled my three owned Series 2 Tivos (I also had a DirecTV HD DVR for a total 4 boxes). The guide update made it so that I no longer had access to my locals. After getting the run around for over a month and their inability to correct the issue I asked for the following: Correct the issue within 2 weeks or lease me comparable equipment for no upfront cost and a new 2 year commitment (I was not under contract). The answer I got back was that they would give me one DVR and a new 2 year commitment. So I went with Dish, of course the next day they offered me way more than I was asking for to stay, but it was too late by then.

Now why do I stay with Dish? Their equipment is incredible and their support has blown away anything that I had gotten from DirecTV. Even though I receive very enticing comeback offers, I still remember they way they handle the issue I had and I just stay put and accept the discounts Dish gives me for staying.
 
I have never had Direct TV, but I have been told on several occasions that the customer service is much better with Dish. I have never had an issues with Dish. They have always solve my issues, the few I have had.

Dish has the programming options that I prefer over Directv for my home setup, for me equipment and technology is top notch. Though I usually read the comeback offers to see whats going on with Direct

With the Movies I have on my EHD, they got me :)
