We finally got a real weather channel. Any chance we'll get a real news channel (i.e., one that has not obsessed about US elections for the last 2 years to the exclusion of all else)?

BBC world news is in the news pack add on package if you have the flex pack. Al jazeera america shut down its news channel a few months back due to low ratings. Basically if you're interested in real news and real journalism, you need to search for it. The sheep in this country prefer to watch the garbage that presents itself as "news".

There is a channel called One America News that is very good in that regard. But I doubt if Dish would ever carry it. We can't even get BBC World News and it just costs about 15 cents a month for them to carry.

Correction, DISH carries BBCWN you just don't like the package it is in.

Yes, the channel gerrymandering on the flex pack is actually worse than the standard packages.

Anyone who says that has no understanding of what A La Carte is, or how it has to work. There are many people just in this forum alone who are paying much less per month but getting the channels they want, or close enough to that. If you choose to be closed minded on the different ways to get programming that's on you. Meanwhile DISH is moving forward with a good effort to lowering the cost to get substantially the channels you want. What good is it to pay less per channel but end up paying for many channels some expensive you don't want? Why not pay more per channel but in the end pay less per month for the substantially the channels you want?

And pay more money for fewer channels..what a steal!!!

Per Dish, any customer who subscribes to America's Everything or Top 250 plan is not allowed to get BBC World News.
That is 100% accurate.
You have to downgrade to Top 200.
IMO thats ridiculous no matter how you slice it.

There are many channels in the Flex pack I would have to pay for that I don't want just the same as Top 200.
True A la carte would allow a subscriber to add BBC world news to any and all basepackages as a stand alone channel.

So exactly what I said, DISH carries the channel you don't like the package you must have to get it. I should complain that I am not allowed to get Family Net in my package. Instead of choices let's reduce it all to having one package with every channel in it. But saying DISH does not carry a channel because you choose not to get that package makes no sense.

Can any forum stay on topic for more then a couple posts on this website anymore?
Seems on topic to me...
BBC World News is what being discussed.
Since political conversations are not aloud, there is not much else you can talk about when it come to a news channel except its availability.

Actually we do.what dish is really doing is a shell game designed to get uneducated viewers with poor math skills to pay more per channel than they would if they were to buy a regular packages..it's similar going to a convenience store and buying a 16 Oz soda for a 1.50..while most know you can buy a 2 liter bottle of soda for a buck at a local supermarket..this is just another way for charlieCo to take more while giving less

If the Top packages cost less per month yet gave more than getting the Flex package as you are trying to suggest you would have a point. Since it cost less and can cost much less to get the Flex package you have no point and made mine and others.

Let me help you. You can go to Costco, Sams's or BJ's warehouse and get the bulk Tomato Sauce. It's a huge can but per ounce it is less than getting a smaller Jar. But you constantly have to throw out part of it because you never use all of it. So the actual cost is much closer than you first thought. On top of that you keep paying $25 more every time you buy it than getting the smaller jar of sauce. By paying that $25 more you can't go out for breakfast a couple of times or save it for something bigger.

So you switch and get the smaller Jar saving $25 each time. It does cost more per ounce but you are saving $25 every time you buy it and you are using the same amount you were before - and here's an important part you aren't going hungry and you have more money for other things.
THAT's the Flex package system. If you find you are going hungry then perhaps the bigger package would be worth it.

That is especially true if you are a brand new customer and choose this plan. The usual intro plans have the first year for crazy cheap, and then an expensive year. It would make no sense to have the Flex Plan for the first year. You can always change to the Flex plan after the first bargain year is over. And that would depend on which channels you like to watch. In may ways the Flex Plan could also be called the common channel plan, but they are channels I seldom watch. I have not watched the USA channel or even the FX channel in years.

There isn't a real news source. They all have a particular bias, slant, perspective, or whatever else you call it. Without getting political, I'm an independent, and with that I even have my own biases, perspectives, and slants. BBC World News isn't biased free. It's just focused through the perspective of the United Kingdom. The same goes for Al Jazeera America. It was based on that of Muslims.

This doesn't invalidate or validate there perspectives. It just identifies that they exist. They weren't unbiased news sources, but rather news sources with an opposing perspective than that of the big name outlets here in the United States.

Mass media, as a whole, is currupt and wants to sway your opinion, even when they don't mean to. You tell me one news source that travels their target audience's geographic location and tells you everything that is happening, from the news we get, to bake sales, school events, the stories of who died, was married, was born, is having a yard sale, just opened a new swimming pool, etc, in the community, listings of town meetings and minutes from each town/city, and so on; and I'll introduce you to a pink and green unicorn with yellow polka dots. We get the stories that they want us to know about; whether it's because it will keep us watching longer for ratings or to spread their beliefs. All news outlets are biased.

I haven't done the math. But, let's say that I want every channel offered in AT200, and decided to get them through the Flex Pack. By what you are saying, I can get them cheaper this way. Is that true? I'm willing to speculate that if I wanted every channel that I currently get, it would be more expensive, or just the same, to get the Flex pack with every add on.
