So, my 722 Hopper started acting up (screen was freezing, no fixes worked). Dish sent a Hopper replacement, but I first I wanted to save my downloaded movies. The Best Buy guys (three of them) told me the "WD My Book 3TB" was fine, but when I got home, I noticed on the Dish site that they say "up to 2TB"... (uh-oh....)
Connected it anyway, and got the dialog box for formatting. And it appears to be happily formatting away. How long will it be before I find out this isn't going to work? It has been about 2 hours now

They usually format in minutes, not hours.

Reboot time.

By reboot, do you mean for the Hopper?
Will the 3TB eventually work, or do I have to return it to Best Buy?
Thanks!

I stick with the 2TB limit but others have posted they've had success with some larger drives. Your's may or may not work. I'd reboot everything and see what happens.

DISH does not support external hard drives over 2TB, although in rare cases larger EHD may work, our software may not be able to take advantage of the larger size EHD. For the best experience possibly we recommend an EHD with a minimum capacity of 50GB and up to 2TB as previously posted.

Try it again first. Power cycle both devices. You will likely only get 2TB, but heck.

Yes, first disconnect the EHD from the Hopper. Now, unplug the power from the Hopper for a minute. Next, after the Hopper has totally rebooted, plug the EHD back in and let it format....
