I currently have a vip622 receiver using it's build in "card". I tried switching over to the FlexPack but was told my receiver is not compatible and will require a new access card. Now, for reasons I don't want to really say, I can't get an access card shipped to me so my only option is to change receivers and get one that's compatible with the FlexPack out of the box.

What's the cheapest DVR that will work, I have no use for all the Hopper stuff, I just want a basic DVR.

Thanks :)

The cheapest dual tuner HD DVR is the one that you currently have. Your receiver technically is compatible, however, the new Smartcard need to be installed for security reason. If you would like we can also ship a Smartcard to a different location for pick up as well, so you do not lose your recordings if you don't have an external hard drive.

2nd option is we can ship you our a replacement receiver that will have the new version software / Smartcard in the receiver. But you lose your recordings if you do not transfer them to an EHD

3rd option is upgrading to the Hopper system. But you lose your recordings if you do not transfer them to an EHD

I'd get the Hopper receiver, extra recording space is nice, but I see it's $5 more a month than a regular DVR. If I don't use any of the Hopper/Joey features does it still cost extra? All I will use it for is a single TV and it's DVR functionality.

DISH does not charge more if you use alot of options on a receiver or charge less if you use none. If you are happy with your current receiver it doesn't sound to me like you would want the Hopper though for $5 more a month it is a far better receiver if you wanted what it offers. Get the card sent to whatever location you want and put it in the receiver then get the Flex Pack.

I'm guessing you're out of country, either Mexico or Canada is my main guess, and that is why you'd rather not say. If the case, you'd need to set up a way to either buy one from somewhere or a friend to ship to, that can ship back to you.

:) I'm a good customer, Dish has been getting $100+ a month from me for the past several years.

use a freight forward company as your billing address or a friend address, use that address for Dish to ship the new smart card, have your friend or shipping company send it to you, upon receiving it, you can always go back into your account and change your billing address to what was previous

Get a ViP211k with the new white G4 Smart Card, and add an external hard drive to turn it into a DVR. With this option, you would have one fewer tuner than you currently have, though.
