Does anyone know if Directv goes after account stacking? And who would I contact to report it!

Just recently had a Directv commercial account disconnect on me and I know darn well the customer took a receiver from his home to his business to avoid paying for the commercial account.

You are a dealer but do not know how to report account stacking?

Yes they and that is a big no no. Many got busted in the past for that.

I don't want my name attached to the fraud report.

Besides the account being used is not one I set up.
Why complain here if you aren't willing to back it up? What difference does it make if it's your account or someone else's?

The commercial one that got shut down is mine. The residential one used to stack is not mine.

It's another dealers account and I don't want the other dealer finding out it was me, as these reports need to be sent to my ASM.

ID rather send an anonymous email If I knew the address.

If the other dealer is in on it, he should be reported, too.

I think you answered your own question. Not trying to be a smartass. here.
The fact that Directv discoed your customer ( if I understand properly) for moving a residential receiver to a commercial location.
Quite frankly i think this is crap. This entire "commercial vs residential view with the different channel packages and different pricing is just plain dumb.
Who cares. Really? Do the cable and satcos really believe that people will go to a business just to sit there and watch tv instead of buying it for their home?
Does it really matter if 15 or more people are viewing a program on one tv?
Heck, for years, we used to get together at a friend's house to watch NFL every Sunday. We were all in the same point spread pool. Usually there were 5 to 10 guys there.
What is the difference between that and a small sports bar that seats 10 or 15 people? Nothing.
Anyway, that's an argument for another day.

You are wise to tread lightly. If the other dealer had no knowledge his customer intended to stack accounts, then reporting that dealer could be viewed by that dealer as predatory.

Have you asked this on your own, dealer, board? Since you are asking here under the same (user) name, on a open board, it's probably not going to make a diff about "another dealer finding you out"... ;)

And at the end of the day, AT&T probably won't do jack about one, small, bar account disco'ing anyway...

Yea if there was anyone on there to respond.

My customer had 2 accounts. They disconnected the commercial account and took a receiver from the home account to where the business account was located.
Im going to claim ignorance because I don't know. Would DirecTV be able to see if a receiver was moved to another location? Can they tell by the upload data?

I assume these receivers "phone home".

Not if your smart about it ...
If it's not connected to a phone line or the internet, they have no idea where it is outside of the place it was installed at.
However, I have seen tech when you call them out, verify where the other recvrs are when at your home.
That would require you to have a reason for them to come out.

As I recall, they pushed this really hard in the summer of 2012. I saw people that had several receivers in different homes on the same account.
I reported it to my sups and they told me not to worry about it.

hmmmm

Actually, people have recvrs in various places all the time and D* is fine with it ... one at home and one at the Cottage/Campground.
They say you can't watch one in both locations at the same time. (Personally, I think this is ridiculous as long as it's on YOUR account ...)
What they really are concerned about is setting one up at different Friends home on your account, which IS against the terms of service.

Most people that are up front with it usually have no issues, friends of mine have one at Home and one at the Cottage and inquired about it when they started and they said no problem.

another part of it is support. over the summer, our backlog can be up to almost 2 weeks out. but if a commercial account called in with a problem we had to be there pretty much the next day. does not make techs happy when you blow up their schedule :p.

Account Stacking?

To me this is one customer having several extra receivers distributed to family/friends in different locations on their own separate dish.

Now the Customer who has an extra receiver in the guest house on his property, camper he uses occasionally, or deer camp, while technically "against the rules" is ok in my opinion, and some techs don't care. When my home system was upgraded to a SWM system, the tech gave me an extra LNB & Power Inserter for my camper after I asked, no big deal.....

I live in South Texas, I know of several who have extra receivers on their account, or pay for accounts that are "South of the border".
I know of no case where DirecTV ever audited or disconnected them like Dishnet was doing years back, this is why historically DirecTV has has been more popular directly across the border where they get a good signal without resorting to larger dishes.

And yes there was the little bar in town with a normal capacity of 10-15 ppl, the owner got DirecTV installed with high hopes of watching all the NFL games, PPV, etc. When he got the price quote of $1000's for a single PPV boxing event, and $3500 for the Sunday Ticket, yes he ended up taking a Receiver from his house to the bar...
Against the rules? Yes, but I'm sure this happens more often then ppl realize in smaller bars, towns, etc.

Now if they were turned in and investigated, I'm sure DirecTV would disconnect them and pursue legal action if appropriate....

Yea it sucks. Every time one of my commercial customers have an issue no matter how stupid they open a case and assign us a service call.

I got several properties that I just ignore every service call they have until they either figure it out on their own or call my office and speak with me directly.

Most of the problem properties are either hotels or assisted living. As people move in and out they just can't seem to leave the Tv configuration alone. Always something stupid.

I had one yesterday. Must have gotten 3 emails and the customer blew up my phone at the office saying the whole building was down while I was at the dentist getting a tooth pulled.

Finally called them back and had them back up and running in 5 minutes. Some idiot turned off the power strip that powered the switches.

The worst part was that the girl at the assisted living center where this happened didn't believe me when I told her it was a blown fuse or the power strip was unplugged.

You install the stuff right the first time, you don't get service calls. Only calls for stupid stuff.
