On the hardware side, the 4K Ultra HD OLED screen at the 65EZ1000’s heart delivers roughly twice as much brightness – around 800 nits – as its predecessor, and around 25% more than any OLED TV we’ve seen so far, period. It’s also capable of expressing around 98% of the DCI colour space used for the majority of HDR content we’re seeing so far, versus 90% with the CZ950.

Advanced new ‘Absolute Black’ filtering in the screen, meanwhile, greatly improves perceived black level response, and should apparently enable Panasonic to deliver blacks that don’t have their colour tone affected by ambient light (the black colors of LG’s 2016 OLED models tend to take on a slightly magenta look in ambient light).

Probably gonna be pricey though! But should be a fine display.

Furthermore, professional users can even upload their own 3D LUTs by SD card/ USB stick. And when you consider Panasonic’s continued finetuning collaboration with Hollywood colourist Mike Sowa, the company’s own Hollywood Lab experience, and integrated DDC (direct display controls) for ISF calibration, it’s unlikely we’ll see another OLED TV that can present the director’s creative intent with more accuracy. THX and Ultra HD Premium certifications are being applied for.

OLED’s self-emissive display characteristics lend itself to true blacks, but LG OLEDs to date have had a tendency to either render the shades just above black with more noise and blockiness, or crush shadow detail however slight. Panasonic aims to tackle this through its HCX2 processor, drawing upon its know-how and experience with plasma to compensate for the relatively large “jump” between OLED’s off (zero black) and on (above black) states for the clearest and cleanest reproduction of detail in dark scenes.

The Panasonic EZ1002/ EZ1000 will support HDR10 PQ (perceptual quantisation) standard for Ultra HD Blu-ray playback, HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) for HDR broadcast, 4K HDR streaming from Netflix, Amazon and YouTube, but not Dolby Vision format since the company believes it knows its own panel and processing better than any other organisation. Like all other OLED TVs to be released in 2017, the TX-65EZ1002/ TX-65EZ1000 won’t have 3D capability.

So Panasonic uses LG panels, but apparently not the same panels that LG uses?

Could be a different specification or just hand-picked.

Did I miss the part where Panasonic had reversed their decision to leave the US consumer TV market?

The marketing words "perceived black level response" leave me cold.

No DV is a killer for me at this point. I'll keep waiting and looking for my bedroom replacement.

S~

When the 2015 Panny OLED (LG Panel) came out, it was actually superior to the 2015 LG models. Its like Sony LCD's, they get the panel and then the rest is theirs, and it usually performs very nicely.

I expect these to be pricey. As far as DV, Im not so sure DV is going to get much steam. Samsung has no interest, Panny, no interest, Sony???

Wow sounds like another winner for Panasonic....... but not in the USA.... at this time.... or anytime. Panasonic just loves to give us the finger....

Yeah the the OLED thing is way to early to see how it does overall the LED's Tech has advance enough that it looks just as good and they keep improving it. I think in the long run OLED will be like Plasma was they just did not sell enough that eventually manufactures stop making them. :)

I'll be buying in Canada like I did for the DX900.

I expect that the claimed power consumption advantages will keep OLED too good to miss and they'll have to figure out a way to make it work. Remember that one of the things that really put the hurt on Plasma was California's power consumption limitations that went into effect in 2013.

Sony has been on the fence and I think if they see an opening for them to take back the high-end consumer market, they'll do whatever it takes. They are reportedly committed to producing DV content on the content side.

Yeah saw they are jumping on the OLED as well we will see how it does the next year or so..

I just don't understand this decision. Very frustrating.

I suspect rights were sold. Like somebody else has the rights to use the Panasonic name for consumer goods in the US.
