I have receive a Dish card in the mail that they are raising the price by $5 per month for local channels on the Core-Americas Top 250.
I never had local channels with my package, i wonder if they going to make everyone take the local channel package.

If you are Grandfathered and never had locals you should be all set as long as you do not change packages. DISH stopped offering locals separately long ago. They have been included in the package price. They now list them separately but so far are still part of the Top packages they can not be taken out of the package. DISH has the Flex package that does allow no locals.

Not really. They lowered the core price by $5 then added $10 for the locals so the monthly fee went up by $5.
No. They raised the core packages by $5. Local $10 remains the same...as in the last ten years or so. You can manipulate the math all you want. Bottom line is what it is.

I encourage you to read the attachment in the original post. Locals have been included in packages for years now. And, yes, the core programming is going down $5 and locals will now be $10 for a final $5 increase in what you pay today.

Let's see if I can explain this a different way so that people would understand.

The total package price (including locals) went up $5. Then they itemized the bill by separating the locals price from the non-locals price.

Rest assured, the price went up for both locals and non-locals, but we can't see how much of the $5 increase is attributed to locals and non-locals. Based on the relative number of channels, it could be $4 of the increase was from non-locals, and $1 from the locals.

This has been discussed in other threads already. The overall price went up by $5 but Dish decided to separate out the locals price. Most seem to feel Dish did this as a bargaining chip -- now if the local feeds try to strongarm Dish for an increase Dish can use a number to show their customers "see, your local stations want us (and therefor you) to pay more". The idea is that the customer would then side with Dish during negotiations then Dish will have more ammo against the locals.

BTW -- here is the original thread (there are also others if you search):

Well I can see them hiking the locals price for each city that pushes them over the $10.00 mark and then sending announcements to those subs who's to blame.

It definitely gets rid of the mentality that locals should be free.

I think they are going to find at $10 a lot of customers would opt to drop locals than take a price increase.

Likely this is an attempt to get around a price guarantee they promised customers for 2 or 3 years.

As you know the base rate is guaranteed for the 2 or 3 years.

I think someone here already posted a $5 higher bill who had a guaranteed rate.

Since prices, packages and programming are subject to change without notice, they basically repackaged locals in a separate package.

They keep the base package the same or reduce it, and they have not broken their price guarantee.

Come next year I bet they find a way to break the regional sports out of At200 and at250 and make it a separate charge and package.

Could be.maybe they would add a surcharge for a particular channel and give customers the option to drop that if they want the price to remain the same.

That's why dish lost 680.00 customers in 2016 with B/S like this.

Probably in 2017 they will try to break the old record, they will be aiming for a 1.000.000 .
