New Dual Tuner OTA Adapter

Rec'd dual ota in today's mail.
Sourced Amazon.
H3 U500.
Turned off H3,
Unplugged single-ota,
screwed ota rg6 into dual-ota,
Plugged dual-ota into H3 usb,
H3 rebooted.
Did not require ota rescan.
Tested dual-ota function.
Works great.
Keeping single-ota as backup.
:)

I am also sticking with my 2 single tuner dongles. One on each Hopper with sling receiver. After seeing how hot the new tuner got, I don't want to place that heat source near my Hopper receivers. Heat is not good for electronics.

The new units are made by Hauppauge and they do run hot. This is one of the reasons I am disappointed that Dish chose them as the manufacturer this time around.

Hauppauge with their WinTV and AMD/ATI TV Wonder are the major players for tv tuners for computers and Hauppauge seems to be the choice as the AMD/ATI TV Wonder 650 USB is really big. Smaller devices because of chassis size always has more heat as long as the heat is properly released with a heatsink, it's similar to the new DOCSIS 3.1 cable modems running the exact same chipset, the Arris SB8200 is hotter than the Motorola (made by Zoom) MB8600.

Don't forget SiliconDust's products like the HD Homerun, though. They run cool and have far more sensitive tuners, in my experience.

I think I am going to get rid of my dual tuner and replace it with the older single tuner for hopper. I am not happy with how hot it gets (it is in a cabinet) and also the tuner sensitivity may not be as good. If anyone wants to trade . . pm me.

I just installed the new dual tuner on a Hopper with Sling. The receiver recognizes it, and I go to a scan of OTA channels, and get the dreaded message of no channels found. I have whatever the latest software is as of a couple days ago, but no channels are being recognized to populate the guide. Does the dual tuner not work with a Hopper with Sling?

The hopper with sling or Hopper 2 might not have the software yet to enable the dual tuner module yet. We just got the dual tuner software on the hopper 3 on 6/29 . You might ask the tech dept. at DISH if they have an idea what is going on. Then again you might also check and see if your ota antenna source is working correctly or not.

Mitch backed out of the deal. So, if anyone else is unsatisfied with their dual tuner adapter, and wants to trade for the old single tuner one, send me a PM.

As others have stated, you need the U235 update before installing the dual tuner dongle. I installed mine and I now have two OTA tuners which seem to work perfectly. Concerned about others reporting heat issues, I measured the temperature of the dual tuner dongle over a 24 hour period and found it to be lukewarm to the touch averaging 105 degrees. The temperature varied from 95 to around 115 degrees, so for me the heat isn't an issue at all.
BTW, I still get all the OTA channels I got with the old single tuner dongle.

I did a software update this morning. Thought that fixed things, but I have no access to the dual tuner, only able to tune in to one OTA channel. Went to the diagnostic screen and it says I have Software Version U234 6/14/2017, 6:35AM. Apparently Even though I did a software update, I did not get the update. should I remove the OTA tuner and then try a software update?

Trouthead, I did the software update with my HWS and I also am still on U234. I think that the software updates still go out in waves and you will not be able to update until your receiver is on Dish's update list.
