Unless I missed something, this came out of nowhere for me. Over the weekend I noticed Universal shut down and the Olympic Channel started. I didn't hear about this ahead of time and there were no messages on DirecTv

It's been known for quite a while. You missed it! :)

Called DTV about it..........CR knew nothing either (seriously!!)!! While on phone with DTV, googled Olympic Channel and found it on 624 and told CR about it......his comment........"good to know"!! Go figure!

As a side note.........apparently not available on Dish.

The Olympics Channel is 624. Some users have reported issues with it. I had to do a "red button reset" to get the channel to show up. There seems to be some confusion as to which packages it comes in, it is not in the "sports pack" nor is it exactly the same packs as UHD was.

This is not a DirecTV decision. Comcast (NBC) decided to cancel UHD and use its slot for a new idea.

I had to go into my "favorite list" and add it............apparently when I set "my channel guide" I had not checked that box.....husband says it works okay!

When I called, CR indicated UHD as in the HD pack; however, Olympic Channel was not........since I do have the Sports Pack too, it was available.

Sports Pak has nothing to do w/Olympic Ch...it's only available in (higher) tier base pkgs Xtra, Ultimate or Premier (which though does include the SP), per this post from a very reliable guy:
Olympic Channel 624

When NBC renegotiated f/Olympic Ch, one of the requirements to providers was to NOT isolate it in an "HD only" or "sports" tier, & for it to be in a (somewhat) widely distributed base pkg. Which is why now add-on tiers that previously had UHD, most likely do not have OC as part of those tiers. ;)
However in the case of Comcast, Digital Starter subs who DID have UHD in their base pkg, now have to upgrade to (higher cost) Digital Preferred base pkg to now get OC.

With UHD gone from the HD pack will we see a new channel added or a drop in price?

Related note Esquire channel was also officially killed off a few weeks ago as well.

Drop in price ?
Ya right ....

The HD package should be FREE as it is ... it's ridiculous that there is a separate charge for it.
