New Genie UI now in CE testing

Except when you do that, you also have to decrease the font .... :(
Its hard enough to read now.

I guess it depends on the size of the screen. When E* had the 3-hour guide I had no problem reading it on my 50" Panny at 8'. Looking at the pic that CSM posted, it looks like they have since reduced the time because they added the station logos along with the channel and put the program info on the right side of the screen. I now prefer the current D* guide to that new one from E*. I don't need the logos, so that is wasted space, IMO. But it may be coming to the new D* guide, right?

I was looking at other TV providers guides, here is the Hopper 3's new guide. Is their font too small?

Well that'll certainly work ...

I guess its all about design choices and tradeoffs ...

DISH appears to leverage both a reduced grid cell width and expands the guide vertically to take advantage of the screen real estate at the top. This reduces the cell's aspect ratio to create room for two lines of program titling plus additional space on the right side of the screen for program descriptions and a smaller PIG which extends about a third of the way into the description area.

The DIRECTV and I see my TIVO (grid guide option) guides want to keep about a third of the top screen area for a larger 16:9 PIG, posters, program descriptions, etc. Which leaves only the remaining two-thirds of lower screen real estate for the entire grid itself.

This naturally results in wider cells with a larger aspect ratio for a single, but longer line of program titling.

If you notice my sig line, I'm watching with a 60" Pioneer Elite TV.

How do you guys feel about the small picture in the guide, do you use it, I do when scrolling thru the guide ...
If not and they took that out, they could gain more room to add more channels.

I just switched over to Dish on Thursday. I like their guide compared to AT&T, at least the current one on the HR54. The font is a bit softer compared to AT&T, but overall I like it better.
It does have the option to increase the size of the font if you have a smaller TV, or just want it bigger.

I have a genie and two other dvrs. Should I upgrade to a genie 2?
Beyond any other issues you may like or dislike about the HS17, the major limitation you'll have to reconcile with if you decide is DIRECTV's crappy policy of only allowing clients on the same account.

So both DVRs along with the Genie of course, must go ...

You can't even keep any other receivers on the same account for tailgating, camping, or at a vacation home.

You must open a separate account for those.

If you can live with this, then the HS17 should be fine for you.

Well one thing I like about the PIG of the new UI. Though some may not have noticed ...

It's actually 16:9 format like on my TIVO.

The former DIRECTV UI's PIG is 4:3 ...

Is there supposed to be channel logos in the guide ? Downloaded the update but no logos .
Yes ...

But they may take some time to appear as they're eventually downloaded over the internet. You may also have to try entering
a "clearmybox 2" command from the search menu.

There appeared to be a problem primarily with at least some of the HR44 models ever acquiring logos, VOD, Mobile DVR, My Teams, etc., with the original "0x0FCC" firmware version.

Don't know if the latest "0x0FCF" corrected this or not as I have the HR54-500 which was not authorized to receive this just past 0x0FCF version.

I have an HR54-700 and downloaded the 0x0FCF version Friday night did the "CLEARMYBOX 2" and as of today still no "logos", no "My Teams", No "Mobile DVR", and no "VOD". At least no channel 1000. I can watch a show from the beginning on demand from the guide. I had lost my 4k Channels as well, but was able to get them back after going online and re-authorizing my DVR from the AT&T website. PQ was horrible on my two RVU, SONY Android TV's faces were blurry on HD Channels, but that seems to now have cleared up, my guess is it was lowering the quality it was streaming to the RVU's at first for some reason, but again that cleared up yesterday for me.

It was pulled about 30 min in Friday night due to issues and was not part of Saturday's download You may want to revert back to the NR. I like several others with the 54/500. Have had issues with no logos/on demand or mobile dvr. Hopefully they get it fixed this week

Ok some good news about an hour ago I did a full reset on my HR54-700 by going to MENU > SETTINGS > RESET > RESET TO DEFAULTS now "My Teams', "On Demand", and "Mobile DVR" are working with the 0x0FCF, no logos yet but I am hopeful they will show up since everything else is now working again. It took about an hour after the reset before things started working agsin.

You did Reset to Defaults, not reset Recvr ?

Might want to check your Recordings set up for stuff you've added time to that kinda stuff.

I followed the procedure above, it did say it was formatting the hard drive, so I lost my settings and recordings, but for me that was ok. about an hour later, everything was working which it was not before, I did this after trying both "CLEARMYBOX" and "CLEARMYBOX 2" Friday night and waiting 24 hours, this did not fix any of the issues I and others are having with the CE builds, but the reset seems to have done the trick in getting stuff working again.

Also to add, immediately after doing this reset I did go back online and send a refresh to my receiver which fixes my loss of 4K channels, and I had to switch "Native" on and than off again in the "DISPLAY" settings to correct my PQ issues.

After doing all of this and waiting about an hour to two hours, the On Demand, Scores, Remote DVR, etc all started working for the first time with the CE build.
