Hi,

I have an Amazon Fire Stick and installed Dish Anywhere to see how it works. I'm setting this up for my aunt who is not all the tech savvy. All the clutter and ad's are a bit annoying on the Amazon Fire Stuff. I like how clean the Roku's are. So, before I purchase a Roku express, is the Dish Anywhere app available for it?

Thanks guys,

Jax

I also have Fire Sticks just because they work with Dish Anywhere, but would prefer Roku.

Same here but Dish Anywhere does not work for me, and the cause seems to be I have a 722 receiver w/Sling Adapter. :crying The VOD part works; all other apps on the Fire TV stick work. My Dish technical contact says this is a known issue.

I too noticed more ads on the TV Stick than I do on my Roku SE, which has got to be one of the slowest streaming video devices around. I unplugged my TV Stick for now and went back to the Roku pending Dish fixing this issue.

I’ve also noticed that Verizon now seems to be throttling Dish Anywhere. I’m in Ohio right now, my Hopper 3 is back home in Kansas. If I try to play a show off my DVR through the Fire Stick, the show will play for maybe 30 seconds, then stop. Pretty annoying.

FCC Repealed net neutrality and now you are having throttling on your internet connection only on certain apps that are not part of your main internet provider. Who would of thought that would happen? Oh yeah, the hundreds of thousands who protested this decision in advance. This is only the start of more pain for consumers.

I just streamed Dish Anywhere using Verizon with no problems at all.

Jeez, it's snowing here. Must be because they repealed that damn net neutrality thing. :biggrin

Try it using a Fire Stick connected to your Verizon phone connected as a hotspot. Then report back.

No Fire Sticks around here and not interested in any. I don't use my Verizon phone as a hot spot unless I'm not at home and need a temporary hot spot for some reason.

That by chance isn't some kind of so called 'unlimited' Verizon plan you're using, is it?

Then you can’t claim it’s working for you; it isn’t for me. That’s all I’m saying. I didn’t claim it was because of Net Neutrality

My plan comes with 15GB unthrottled hotspot.

Verizon is streaming Dish Anywhere fine here on my phone and tablet, that's what I 'claim'. Don't know what your problem could be but I find it hard to believe that it's because of net neutrality in any way, shape or form.

I’m not talking about on my phone itself. Yes that works fine. I’m talking about a Fire Stick connected to the phone which is operating as a hotspot.

I know what you're talking about. And I still say that your problem probably has nothing at all to do with net neutrality. It could be any one of a thousand different reasons why you're having a problem with your hot spot and firestick.

If your phone is working fine why not just cast it to the TV.

Hello. I never said anything about net neutrality. I’m just saying it doesn’t work for me which is annoying since for me the WHOLE PURPOSE of having Dish Anywhere is to use it on vacation.

I have the A/V adapter for my iPhone which I plan to use. The point is, there’s no reason for Verizon to throttle DA, if in fact that is what they’re doing

Hello, you said Verizon was throttling your connection and the next poster chimed in about all the evils of the net neutrality repeal. Excuse the hell out of me for connecting the dots.

You are ASSUMING that Verizon is throttling your hot spot connection and my point is that it could be any one or more of a thousand reasons why you're having problems with your fire stick. It's probably a reason that has nothing to do with throttling or net neutrality. That was my point.

I'm sorry that you're annoyed or pissed or whatever with your fire stick. I hope it works out for you.

Being an IT manager, I think my assumption is a solid one, because when I connect my VPN, it streams fine. That points to Verizon throttling. Whether that has to do with Net Neutrality, I do not know, and quite frankly don’t give a hoot’s holler. But it IS annoying.

DA on my Fire Stick works fine with my AT&T hot spot, but I have AT&T for Internet too. I wouldn't expect Verizon to throttle the video stream unless there was congestion on the tower you are connected to, but I had inconsistent data reliability with Verizon as well, so who knows?

all those all those sticks be it Roku or Amazon Fire TV or whoever are underpowered. DA has and is working very well on both my full Fire TV boxes, not sticks. Amazon's latest Fire TV which is in the shape of a square and a dongle HDMI connection is actually an upgraded stick so DA may actually work better on Amazon's latest Fire TV masquerading as the box but really an upgraded stick because the specs are any improvements to the previous stick.

it's all it's all over the Internet are both Roku and Fire Sticks don't perform nearly as well as the boxes. There's a reason why the sticks are so cheap. in fact many of them that have commented that switching to the Box was a far superior experience compared to any of the stick products. You get what you pay for. However I will say for traveling a stick is far more Compact and maybe adequate rather than having to pack the box and the cables.

I normally connect my FireStick to my AT&T unlimited data hotspot

What data plan are you on? VZW does hard throttle some phone plans in hotspot mode after a preset usage limit is reached. It's not app specific though...

It’s the “Beyond Unlimited” plan; comes with 15gb unthrottled hotspot. I have a dedicated phone that I use just as a hotspot for vacations like these; so there’s no data use on the phone itself
