I have an 86 year old neighbor with an 8 foot Bird View dish that she wants me to take because she sees my 10 foot Winegard dish when she drives by my home and knows that I am an FTA enthusiast.

The problem is that her dish is on a 20 foot pole that is strapped to her modular home. I talked to her about the dish 10 years ago (6 years before I got my Winegard) and my wife said no because of the risk of injury and doing damage to her her trailer. (the pole is strapped to her trailer)

I took a vacation day from work today. She drove by and saw me in my driveway. She did a U turn and asked me if I wanted her dish before she died.

I'm 56 and still work full time, so I have limited time to look at the channels on my current C-Band and KU dishes.

Should I rescue her dish and save it for future use? I'm not sure. My wife feels sorry for the lady and is willing to have us pay someone to remove it from her trailer and bring it to our place. I have seen lots of posts praising Bird View dishes over the years that I have been here.

The lady has not used it since her husband died in 1985. I will appreciate any suggestions that you all have to offer.

Thanks,
Norman

Are you on the east side of the state? I have a jin pole and Birdview lift attachment. We could have that down in a jiffy. ;)

If not the solution above, know anyone with a bucket truck? That's a good starting point for at least getting AT the parts to disassemble..and YES, rescue that Birdview. they're still maybe, possibly, could-be the BEST for C-band out there. Once you have one installed, you'll want more...and your love of the hobby will grow. Oops. I promised I'd never read from the crystal ball again.

I live in Spokane Valley. I'm 15 miles from the Idaho state line, so I'm less than 200 miles from Missoula. I will tell her this weekend that I will get her dish this spring. Thank you all for the suggestions.

Sincerely,
Norman

Post some pictures of the dish if you can so I can get an idea of the scope of the project :)

I talked to my neighbor this morning. She introduced me to her son and grandson (that I have never seen in the 14 years that I have lived here)

They thanked me for wanting to remove the dish. They want me to pay them $500 to remove the dish.

My wife is going to talk to the dish owner (the 86 year old lady) next week. I apologize for bringing up the topic with this new, unknown variable.

Sincerely
Norman

$500 LOL, You can tell them you would usually charge them to remove it but felt the dish may be worth the effort. But for $500 they may continue to enjoy their dish for some time to come ;)

I would leave it and not be sorry about it. If the old lady wants it gone, she would let it go for free. Also, It's not the grandson's dish, so don't even talk to him. Talk to the real owner.

It's up high. I went to get a 7.5 wineguard quadstar off a 20 foot pole two weeks ago and it didn't go well. Climbed up, lost my balance and gave up. Climbing isn't for everyone.

My wife plans on talking to the lady during the week.

Most BV dishes are not "Plug and Play" after you recover them. They need a sensor upgrade and possibly a refit of the scalar for a modern LNBF. So you can tell the owner the dish is unusable in it's present form and there isn't a handful of people that can make it useful again.

Depending on what she says to my wife, I will pass this information on to the lady.

Thanks,
Norman
