Netflix: Lost in Space

Did anyone notice that in the first or second episode that during the flash back scene on the Space station that the original boy that played Will Robinson ( Billy Mummy) was playing the male Dr. Smith who got shot in the leg on the space station? THey also showed him in a photo in the album that the female Dr. Smith(Parker Posey) had on the planet that they crashed on. Good cameo, but he didn't have but one line or two before the Robot destroyed the space station.

Oh the pain, THE PAIN.

Another little homage was "Dr. Smith's" real name being J. Harris, sharing the last name and initials of the actor (Jonathan Harris) who played Dr. Smith on the original series.

Guess I'll have to check it out this weekend.
On the plus side, can't be as bad as the original. :D

Okay, the original wasn't too bad, it just wasn't good, and no where near must watch, even if it had cliff hangers all the time.

The movie though, was AWFUL.
I read that CBS passed on Star Trek in favor of LIS. I never liked it enough to attempt this one. Plus, I'm starting to tire of Molley Parker.

I always thought Jonathan Harris played a Dr. Smith so campy that the original series lost credibility. I still watched it, though, mainly for Angela Cartwright. :D I also appreciated the original robot, which looked really cool and different from Robby who showed up in many SF shows back in the day.

I'm at episode 5. I like it so far, but don't care for the screwy time line. The new Dr. Smith is definitely a devil woman. Wow!

Posey's Dr. Smith is hard to nail down. On one hand, she has the intelligence to pull off the Confidence Scam and has studied humans enough to be able to play against their desires and fears to get her way. But I still can't figure out what her end game is.

My big question was the planet they crashed on in the Milky Way? When Maureen zoomed out the Robot's SatNav she could not identify the galaxy they were in. I mean, the original target was Alpha Centauri, right? This was mission #24? Don West has made the back-and-forth enough times to figure he can make money smuggling booze to the new Colony. Which such a reliable drive system, how did the Resolute end up millions of lightyears elsewhere?

The chariots are not six wheeled? And being four-wheeled, they only drive the rear wheels? That's just wrong.

The Jupiters use Methanol for fuel? The planetary eels can find their way into every Jupiter that landed (except West's and Smith's ship) even if the ship was undamaged? A bacteria would have been more plausible.

Watched the first two episodes last night. Overall I'm OK with it so far, not expecting it to be much like the original.

I thought it was odd at the beginning everyone is sitting around playing Go Fish but nobody is piloting the ship?

Kinda of jarring start with no background as to why these people are where they are.

Just recently watched all of Black Sails so it is a little weird to me seeing Toby Stephens playing a more meek character.

Ok, first impression of the 1st episode ....

Will Robinson, they could have given you a better person to play your part ... don't care for him so far.
Can they please make him smarter ?
Not what you would expect if you know the original series.

Also, lets hope that the "Robot" says more than "Danger Will Robinson" over the course of the show ...

Since you are reading this thread, I am going to assume you've made it past episode 1 and maybe 2. Fear not, Will does get his chance to shine, but he isn't the "Will Robinson saves the Day" from the original series, so that's good. That Will Robinson grew up, joined Star Fleet, and changed his name to Wesley Crusher...

Yes, it does, but not until the end. But it's interesting when the robot imprints onto the Parker Posey character that she hasn't dropped the "Dr. Smith" moniker even after there is no need to prolong the charade.

If you remember, the ship was in some sort of automated flight plan as the ship gave them a countdown until the engine burn. Of course, the seats in the Hub were mounted as if the thrust were coming from the bottom of the ship, but the main engines are clearly located aft of central section of the ship, a puzzling design. Oh, wait, osu1991 said I should just go with it...

An observation I forgot to note in my post above:
Did anyone else go "WTF man!" when they tossed a lit flare into the middle of all the stalagmites of alien bat guano? The alien bat guano that contains so much potential energy they are going to launch multiple Jupiters into orbit?

That's right! Go with it man, you'll enjoy it so much more. You keep analyzing it like Wesley Crusher and you'll end up like him with some silly show with board games on TBD.

TableTop on TBD

Binge watching, as I have the time at the moment ....
About 2/3rds way thru ...I am enjoying it, all though some times its difficult to determine what ship they are on from time to time.

I wouldn't say its the Best of anything, but not the worst either.

You have to pay attention to the walls. They all have the "J" followed by the Arabic number of the Jupiter they're on. Seems odd to name the ships after a Roman god and than use Arabic numbers, but that's just getting way too picky, right osu1991? ;)

I know its irrelevant in this particular incident, but we've all thru out lives with the old LIS and the new, heard about the Jupiter 2 ...
Doesn't that make you wonder ?
What happened to the Jupiter 1 ?

Has anyone noticed how high the numbers went this time for the Jupiter, I think I was 18 somewhere along the way, any others ?

I saw Jupiter 23 and Jupiter 35 in the panning scene of the space dock towards the end of episode 1 when they were all evacuating.

Cool ....
Its amazing that when the Main Space Center was being attacked and the ships ... some were getting away, how all these ships mostly all landed/crashed on the same planet, yet no one found anyone for days/weeks ?

I haven't seen one episode yet. But the new LiS is growing less appealing with every post!

If you are expecting something like the original, just watch the original.

I didn't expect the original and I enjoyed the show. At the end of episode 10 I was wanting more. Plenty of room to continue the story if they choose to. I'm not fond of the storytelling style of using so many flashbacks. I would have preferred the beginning be more chronological. All in all decent entertainment IMO. I look forward to additional seasons.
