Has Dish Network been better at channel disputes lately?

Maybe I will go back to Dish Network, but I’ll just wait a few weeks. Not my favorite option, but like you guys say I could watch Disney XD in HD on my Roku. But I have one question. I know you guys told me in a thread I posted here a couple months back that Dish improved their HD quality. So is it on par with DirecTV? One more question... I plan to “move” shortly after getting Dish, so do they have any SV locals in any markets? That wouldn’t be a requirement, but would be nice.

The HD picture quality with the new generation of Dish receivers like the Hopper and Wally is excellent and very comparable to DirecTV. Dish's SD channels are actually a lot better than DirecTV's.

What's an SV local?

SV locals are specified areas that get a second local market. I live in Rochester, Minnesota and am “moved” to Durand, Wisconsin which gets La Crosse, Wisconsin locals as well as the Twin Cities, Minnesota locals as its secondary market. SV stands for “significantly viewed”. Having two markets would be nice when I go to Dish, but not required.

I can only speak for myself here, but the HD channels look very good on both my Wally and Vip211k, I just dropped DirecTV and can say that I saw very little difference in picture quality. Where you will see the biggest difference is with the software interface of the Wally and vip211k, they use SD low quality graphics whereas DirecTV's Genie looked more like 1080p graphics to me.

Fair enough, I’ll look a little later.

Don't be surprised if you don't see any SV channels. I've tried and tried, running literally dozens of zip codes, and there aren't any in my region. I am fortunate that Missouri has a number of DMA's available though, including one county in the NW corner of the state that gets Omaha locals with 2 PBS stations, and one county in the extreme SE portion that gets Memphis. It takes time, trial and error to find the "sweet spots." None of these have SV channels, though.

The Wally interface is HD.
