So HBO is supposed to just let their profits decline so Dish doesn’t have to raise their prices, not. Prices for things go up and if you can’t afford to pay it then you don’t get to buy it. Sorry it’s just capitalism at work.

You really need to get a grip on what's fair because that's an important part of capitalism. Capitalism influenced by monopolistic practices and corruption is just a bunch of crooks getting rich on everybody else's back.

Maybe because it's not a monopoly that conditions weren't required. You still want HBO you can sign up for HBO Now. Or you can switch to another provider that still carries it.

Except for all the rural folks who don't have adequate internet access for streaming who then must sign up for AT&T's DirecTV.

I can't believe you don't see the problem with that unless you're an AT&T share holder who doesn't care who gets screwed as long as you make a buck.

Pacific Northwest, where it rains a lot...
With AT&T going ape-sh*t on this, I back Dish on this one, especially on the point of having to guarantee a certain sub number and either pass on the cost to everyone who doesn't sub to HBO/Cinemax or eat the cost.

With this in-mind, I don't we'll be seeing HBO/Cinemax back very soon. Additionally, I've got Starz/Encore and Epix to watch. That'll do me just fine. If they settle this and it comes down to a sub number guarantee, I'll drop HBO/Cinemax for the simple reason that it's utterly unfair to make others have to pay for a fixed sub number. Talk about extortion!

I'm on Dish's side here. You can't force Dish to pay you for "potential customers". HBO isn't providing a public service like the fire or police department. We pay taxes because we might need their services, and it's for the good of the community. HBO is more like McDonald's. If I want a hamburger, I can go there and buy one. But that doesn't mean that if I'm not going to buy a hamburger, I still have to send them my money.

If HBO want's more money, then make a better product to attract more customers, or charge your customers more for your product, or cut costs on your product. That's Capitalism at work. Forcing people who don't want and don't need your service to support you is Socialism.

Agree, but I think you should then point your anger to much bigger targets, drug companies are one that pops up to the top of my list.

Capitalism is what, make me money, tons of money and who gets that money, the CEO's, COB's, other top executives and the stock holders. They then trickle down some of that money to the lobby firms on K screen in DC which goes into the campaign funds of the politicians that write the laws and approves the mergers that you have your shorts in a knot about. So IMHO if you don't like how the things are going then vote for folks the can change it, else just learn to live with it since it's the way of the world.

Isn't that the same thing Dish/DIRECTV/Comcast/Specturn etc do to you now, they make you pay for services you don't want buy making you pay for channels you don't want to get the channel you want.

Not quite, paying for the channels in a package that you don't want you are still getting them, HBO want you to pay them even though you are NOT getting them.

My anger is currently pointed at the subject of this thread but I agree with your basic premise that crooks will be crooks unless the fair and honest people stop them. That's why I'm spending my time countering your AT&T spin here now.
