Disney Plus +

Ready to pay the annual price on Day one.

I am wondering, if a person has cable/sat, will they be able to get Disney+ alone and not a bundle? I could care less about ESPN as I am not a sports fan. Hulu, I watch little there as I like Prime better. I was hoping I could buy Disney+ separately.

Yes, Disney+ will be available as a separate subscription; however, it may work like ESPN+ in that in order to access live streaming content from the live linear channels in the app, you'll need to have TV provider login credentials. That is of course assuming Disney planned to include live streams of its linear channels in the app. I actually hadn't heard that. But no reason they wouldn't.

Bundling with ESPN+ and Hulu may be other options. No official announcement has been made. Disney is only saying they'll "likely" bundle: Disney confirms it will ‘likely’ bundle Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu for one price

Does espn+ include the live linear espn cable channels ? I didn’t think it did and covered more of the stuff espn 3 covered in the past. In addition to the free streams you get for having log in credentials but on an event basis.

I’ve not used it so I don’t know.

I was thinking Disney+ sounded more like a Netflix type service than a channel app service. I wouldn’t expect live streams to be included.

The ESPN+ app includes the live linear streams, but only for those with TV provider login credentials. If you only subscribe to the $5/mo. "Plus" service, you don't get the live linear channels. Tennis Channel works the same way, though it's way more expensive for what you get ($99/year for early round matches at some major but mostly minor tennis tournaments).

The only reason I think Disney+ could possibly include live linear channel access for those with TV provider login credentials is because ESPN+ does.

Ahh, then yes. I can see where one would think it include them. I guess espn + acts the regular watch espn app, and if you buy the “+” part you get the less watched sports a conferences.

Is it a totally separate app? Or is it a section of the watch espn app ?

ESPN integrated everything into an app that is simply called "ESPN" (no more "Watch ESPN" or "ESPN+"). Inside the app there's a separate "ESPN+" tab, but on the main "home" screen, everything is mixed together with an ESPN+ label on some (well, most) of the content.

I expect that Disney (and everyone else) is going to have to make some more comprehensive offering for those who are otherwise cord cutters. As much fun as picking and choosing between carriers and monitoring their price maneuvering is, it isn't getting enough people to wean off the conventional pay TV pig teat. To do that, I believe the offerings needs to be more complete.

Like you, I haven't heard anything one way or another, but I'll be mildly surprised if they allow for live streams of the Disney cable channels (e.g. Disney Channel, Disney XD, etc.) inside the Disney+ app. I think the overall content bundle and desired image of Disney+ (always ad free, 4K HDR, major movies, etc.) is more premium than the general perception of their basic cable channels. And they want people to understand that Disney+ is a totally standalone on-demand subscription service (like Netflix). So, from a marketing perspective, I think they would frown on adding in live streams of the linear cable channels with TV provider login credentials. I understand that ESPN+ (which replaced the old ESPN app) does this but I think that's a different situation.

I do wonder, though, if we'll see Disney+ offer next-day (or even same-day) access to new episodes of current-season shows from the Disney basic cable channels, the same way that Hulu does for ABC, Freeform and will start doing this weekend with the new FX series The Weekly. Just how willing are they to cannibalize the basic cable bundle?

I still have Dish with Disney, so either way I should be fine.

You may get access to more if you have a cable/satellite sub though. The Dish On Demand feature I use on the Fire TV gives me a lot of free content.

NBC Universal is supposed to have free access to the service with a satellite/cable sub. I do get a good deal from Dish and the extras by having that satellite sub is great.

Disney+ Won't Be Available on Amazon Fire TV at Launch

https://www.multichannel.com/news/disney-plus-wont-be-available-on-amazon-fire-tv-at-launch

The Walt Disney Company says that its new streaming platform, Disney+, will launch on November 12 in every major OTT ecosystem. But Amazon Fire TV didn't make the list of platforms the Disney+ app will be launching on.

Update: Disney didn't comment for MCN. But an individual close to the company said it would be "misleading" to indicate that a deal won't be carved out with Amazon before November 12.

According to The Streamable, Disney+ will have 4K content at launch, 4 simultaneous streams on up to 10 different devices, allowing up to 7 different profiles, and unlimited offline mobile viewing. Movies will come with extras, like on DVD/blu-rays. And when browsing the app, movie trailers won't auto-play.

Are you paying attention, Netflix? That’s one thing about Netflix I won’t miss if we decide to cancel and pick up Disney+ in its place.

On the flip side I just read that unfortunately Disney + will only be releasing its original series episodes on a weekly basis instead of all at once like Netflix does. So Disney + will be more like Hulu in that regard, which isn't totally surprising.

Just subscribed at the discounted 3 year price of $140.97, comes out to basically $3.92 a month, the other plus is I do not have to worry about a price increase for those 3 years.

Better be worth it
