FOX Dispute?

So save the money and ignore the locals. ...
That's the plan! :) :thumbup
...Do really think Dish would nearly cut the Welcome Package price in half if they dropped the locals from it?
I was thinking that for those of us with the grandfathered price of $25.99 per month, Dish would end the grandfathering (raising the price to $29.99 per month) but then give us the option to drop locals. That way, we could still save some money on our bill, but not as much as subscribers to the other packages save when dropping locals. It is just an idea, and a possible explanation of the reason for the steep price increase to $29.99 per month in the first place.

When in the grid guide, arrow to the left to highlight the channel name.
That is something I wish we could do on our Dish receivers. The idea is that we could highlight the channel name, and then select it to change the channel displayed in the video window without exiting the guide. That is one feature from Directv receivers that I truly miss when using the guide on Dish receivers.

It seems pretty clear to me that the Welcome Pack was intended as a loss leader package to introduce new subscribers to the service in hopes that they would upgrade later on.
Well, that is just it: by grandfathering existing subscribers with a lower price, Dish has given Welcome Pack subscribers an incentive to not upgrade, in order to avoid losing the grandfathered price. In fact, in my case, it was an incentive to downgrade, since I wanted to switch to Welcome Pack before the grandfathering deadline, to make sure I could get the lower price. I had Flex Pack price-locked for a couple of years before downgrading to Welcome Pack.

And now you want Dish to cut the price even more by dropping the locals? It occurs to me that the locals may be part of the draw that brings many people to the Welcome Pack in the first place, since it's the lowest price Dish package. All the others charge extra for the locals.

When in the grid guide, arrow to the left to highlight the channel name. You’ll see about 24 hours of programming. Outside of that, you can search for programs about 2 weeks out using the search function. Click on the “+ add to library” and it’ll be added when it records.

Dish has been promoting dropping the locals ever since they broke them out as a separate package. They'll even come install an OTA antenna for you, and they've added the Locast locals streaming app to the Hoppers for those in covered areas.
What if you live in an apartment complex where the landlord won't let you install the antenna and an inside antenna won't pickup nothing.

Landlord can't prevent you from installing an antenna (assuming you have an exclusive use area).

Over-the-Air Reception Devices Rule
It was bad enough trying to get my Dish antenna installed so I could imagine trying to install a 30 ft outside antenna. I live in an area that's called the Bermuda triangle(local speak). Too far away to get any networks with inside antenna so either need cable or satellite to get locals

In that case, and assuming Locast won't work for you, then it's a good thing Dish is not doing away with the locals completely. But it's also good they're willing to fight keep the cost down... If you need a temporary filler during a dispute outage, one of the streaming options might work. Even the usual free trials might be long enough...

I am watching YouTube TV FS1 channel from the cloud right now. What a PITA. Nothing like the Hopper 3.

But the point is you're still able to watch it... ;)

I should add that I just checked the FoxNow app on my Firestick, and FS1 works fine there using an alternate cable account to activate it. I can also get it on Fitzy and could record it if I paid the $5 for the DVR service.

Thanks Charles. I'm really trying to last this one out. I can get Fox OTA but FS1, FS2 and BTN are a problem. I'm thinking Youtube TV and Sling for the Redzone might be an option. I'd really hate to give up the H3s and the wife factor would be a hard sell. But, she's a bigger football fan than I am, so maybe not that hard. I'm going to give it at least another week.

I think it is good to look at the options long range but we are just a few days into this one. As is usual anytime there is an outage there is outrage, foot stomping, and threats, some even quit right now. People need to calm down. There are ways to get the content on a temporary basis, for most people, that have been expressed here. If the outage goes long term then that is the time to move to other methods in a more permanent basis.

I only need the FS1 channel. I wanted to go with Sling but I am pretty sure FOX has it blocked from it too. Maybe Hulu works better than YouTube! I plan on quitting the YouTube trail. I don't need any more TV bills. We already have HBO Go, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. That is enough. I only need FS1 for NASCAR Race Hub and the NHRA drag races. I can live without both till DISH gets it back. I am a lifer for life with DISH and the Hopper 3. I'm with DISH through thick and thin,

What do you mean by the bolded? I'm in the early part of a contract, but may go to streaming at renewal time. I'm curious about the user interface.
While playing back a program from the YouTube cloud pressing the right arrow in my LG Magic remote control to fast forward skipping a commercial the block thing shows up. You have to keep clicking to advance or hold down the arrow key. When you hold it down it advances way too fast. Then you have to hit the select button to go back to playing the program.
