I was thinking that for those of us with the grandfathered price of $25.99 per month, Dish would end the grandfathering (raising the price to $29.99 per month) but then give us the option to drop locals. That way, we could still save some money on our bill, but not as much as subscribers to the other packages save when dropping locals. It is just an idea, and a possible explanation of the reason for the steep price increase to $29.99 per month in the first place.
That is something I wish we could do on our Dish receivers. The idea is that we could highlight the channel name, and then select it to change the channel displayed in the video window without exiting the guide. That is one feature from Directv receivers that I truly miss when using the guide on Dish receivers.
Well, that is just it: by grandfathering existing subscribers with a lower price, Dish has given Welcome Pack subscribers an incentive to not upgrade, in order to avoid losing the grandfathered price. In fact, in my case, it was an incentive to downgrade, since I wanted to switch to Welcome Pack before the grandfathering deadline, to make sure I could get the lower price. I had Flex Pack price-locked for a couple of years before downgrading to Welcome Pack.
And now you want Dish to cut the price even more by dropping the locals? It occurs to me that the locals may be part of the draw that brings many people to the Welcome Pack in the first place, since it's the lowest price Dish package. All the others charge extra for the locals.
What if you live in an apartment complex where the landlord won't let you install the antenna and an inside antenna won't pickup nothing.
Landlord can't prevent you from installing an antenna (assuming you have an exclusive use area).
It was bad enough trying to get my Dish antenna installed so I could imagine trying to install a 30 ft outside antenna. I live in an area that's called the Bermuda triangle(local speak). Too far away to get any networks with inside antenna so either need cable or satellite to get locals
In that case, and assuming Locast won't work for you, then it's a good thing Dish is not doing away with the locals completely. But it's also good they're willing to fight keep the cost down... If you need a temporary filler during a dispute outage, one of the streaming options might work. Even the usual free trials might be long enough...

What do you mean by the bolded? I'm in the early part of a contract, but may go to streaming at renewal time. I'm curious about the user interface.
While playing back a program from the YouTube cloud pressing the right arrow in my LG Magic remote control to fast forward skipping a commercial the block thing shows up. You have to keep clicking to advance or hold down the arrow key. When you hold it down it advances way too fast. Then you have to hit the select button to go back to playing the program.
