That’s it! I’m leaving Dish when my contact’s up and returning to DirecTV.

Despite my love for the Hopper 3, these long, ongoing channel disputes are getting ridiculous. Right now, in my “moved” market of the Twin Cities I lost KMSP (Fox) and its sister channel WFTC (MyNetworkTV) which is the last straw. I was worried that DirecTV would also have a dispute with WUCW (CW), but that didn’t happen. My contract is up next July, so I’ll go back to DirecTV and “move” again on the day of my installation like I did with Dish, no problems. I think the equipment I’ll have is an HR54, a C61K, an HR24, and a THR22 (of which I’ll buy on Weaknees). Yes I know you guys don’t recommend the THR22, but I can always cancel that box, but I’m curious, and it seems to be liked on TiVo Community. And since DirecTV has Epix now, that’s a plus!

The Direct TIVO is ok as long as you know what you're buying. It's an extra $5 a month on top of the $7 receiver fee. It's old, I think comparable to a Series 2 or Series 3, and Tivo is on Series 6 now. Pretty much end of life, not going to get much for updates or improvements. Interface is slow, much like the HR22 that it is built on, also does not support whole-home DVR. If you are getting a Genie I would recommend just staying within the one interface. The Tivo is good for someone who maybe lives alone or has limited recording (two streams) and is not going to use whole-home features to watch in multiple room, but wants the Tivo interface. It was old hardware the day they released it, and it's gotten long in the tooth.

As for the disputes at Dish, it doesn't look good and is getting worse. DirecTV has stated that they will be more aggressive, but they still seem to be getting things done.

Your going to get at AT&T account. I doubt they will activate it.

Besides having a THR22 myself and a TiVo Vox with cable, the difference is night and day.

Now If Directv would find a way to put Tivo software in a genie, that would be awesome and put all the hopper fan boys in their place.

Fox vs Dish...ATT vs Disney/ABC/ESPN
Fox channel pulled from Dish; ESPN and Disney could be next on DirecTV

ATT/Directv May 31: 17 stations in 14 markets

ATT/Directv NexStar dispute (8 weeks of blackout) August 2019

ATT/Directv CBS dispute in 12+ markets (July 2019)

ATT/Directv Sinclair media 136 channels, 86 markets September 2019

There's no shortage of Directv carriage disputes. If you think by changing it's just going to magically stop..then you're wrong. I foresee plenty in the future as cord-cutting hits even more profits, Elliot group squeezes ATT to sell Directv...etc.

But let us not forget the Fox (Sinclair) RSNs, Fox O & O/FS1/FS2, HBO/Cinemax disputes that are going on with Dish at the moment.

This has been the legacy of Dish Network for nearly 20 years. DirecTV rarely had issues at first, but they have been more pronounced over the past few years just like everyone else.

Don’t forget if you have other AT&T services you get some bundling discounts or even free service, like I get HBO for free.

Well, I called Dish today and I told them when my contract is up next July I'll switch to DirecTV if this dispute with Fox lasts too long (even if they get it back before my contract is up), so they gave me Showtime free for two months. So with that generosity, I'll think about it. I might still switch next July, but we'll see.

Can’t move with cellphones?
I'm pretty sure you can't, because they need a verified service address to the best of my knowledge. If I ever need to get it serviced, it'd look suspicious if I always went to the Rochester, MN locations instead of Durand, WI (of which I'd "move" to to get the Twin Cities, MN and La Crosse, WI).

Be aware that DirecTV has actually been getting into a lot of disputes too recently. Be sure you have another option in case DTV does not work out for you.
Yes, that's true, but don't they usually resolve MUCH FASTER on DirecTV? The one with Dish and HBO has been going on for almost a year. In my true locals (not my "moved" ones), they had disputes with a couple of my stations for four months each.

The notion that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence is just that, a notion. Disputes aren't even the major concern for DTV, future viability is. Good luck.

DirecTV has still not resolved its conflict with my local Fox affiliate owned by Northwestern Communications.
DirecTV removed the station on February 22.

The only issue you would have is if they shipped you a new phone

And it will continue to rock on until Dish / Direct merge or something else happens (and it may not happen with Dish+Direct..but AT&T is a bewildering conglomerate of a "business"...and they have no intentions of doing anything that remotely resembles being "for the customer".
For the most part, Dish tries to settle these expediently. Some may not work out, but most do.
