Watching store programs "offline"

Assuming I'm able to successfully set up a Hopper 3 to use with our RV while traveling, will it be possible to watch any pre recorded stored TV programs without having to reconnect to the tripod mounted Dish? For example, were we to pull into a Walmart for a quick overnight, will we be able to watch any TV programs previously recorded on the Hopper?

Asking because that didn't seem to be the case with the Pathway X2 we used last as It "insisted" on a connection.

You can determine this for yourself.

Just unplug your Hopper, disconnect the satellite cable from the back of the receiver, then plug your Hopper back in and see if you can watch recorded programs.

There will undoubtedly be some error messages, I wouldn't do a check switch if you don't have to, it will erase your satellite location data and will have to be repeated when you reconnect.

Good luck.

Watching DVR content on a Hopper3 that is offline works for a few days. When I had my roof redone, my Dish was removed for 3 weeks. After one week both Hopper3 receivers stopped working. They would go into a constant reboot after the error screen for no signal was displayed. Both receivers started working again once my Dish was reinstalled.

So the answer is that the DVR content can be viewed for about a week but then the Hopper3 receivers stop working.

Aha-- I've definitely do that IF we had a Hopper! :) We currently have the Pathway X2 with the Wally and external HD and I'm considering whether the Hopper would be worth the investment as it enables one to record more than one program at a time.

That's interesting-- thanks for the input. It seems that somehow the connection is tested at some kind of interval when not online.(?) If we could count on a week's worth of viewing for those instances when we're not set up, that would be useful.

I suspect it coincides when the guide data runs out.

The ability to watch my recorded shows is a big thing for me while traveling in my RV. I have the Wally+EHD and it is a hit or miss each time I try to watch something when I cannot get a satellite feed due to trees. I am also thinking about switching to a Hopper 3 (at a big expense) IF I can watch my recorded shows for a few days.

First off, you could have the ability to record four programs at once with the Wally by adding an external hard drive and an ota double tuner, then paying $40 for dvr capability. However, youi would only be able to record programs on the same satellite since the Pathway X2, like all dome dishes, is only pointing toward one satellite at a time. Secondly, you can't use a Hopper with the Pathway X2.

Thanks. Yes, we have the external HD/DVR but often are in areas with not OTA reception. Also I do understand the other limitations you mentioned (one sat a time + X2 not working with Hopper). I went back & forth between the X2 and Hopper and only went with the X2 in the end for its ease of use in setting up-- mainly due to the fact that other family members might be using it.

Turned out that I was the only one setting things up and given that I don't see any of the potential "challenges" of setting up the Hopper as an issue, now rethinking that might be way to go. Maybe I can sell the Pathway to another family member if I go that route! :)
