I HATE Google Assistant

Mine hasn't given me any problems, but I don't look for PAC 12 game, I search for one of the teams that are playing. I searched for Utah Football. It came up with links to all the Utah sports, I clicked on Football, it showed me tonight's game. Then I did the same thing with Oregon
Yup, that worked for me as well. I guess I haven't figured out all the nuances of it yet.

OK, first off, it's still new so it has bugs, like everything that's new. Second, I'm, not a fan of it, but home connectivity is the future. That's just how it is. It's not a "pig in a poke", it's where the world is headed. And Google is the primary developer of home connectivity.

The only reason I'm not a fan is because of how intrusive it is to our privacy, but as far as the technology, it's pretty nice. And it's already p;art of the Google Home "crap"
Why do you work so hard to defend GA? Do you have a vested interest or just a nerd? Be honest. Home connectivity is not a given, so far it's been a solution looking for a problem with mostly failures. When GA first came out it would read my emails and messages and remind me of appointments that I forgot to put in my calendar, appointments that were in my calendar, remind me of when to leave for an appointment based on traffic; yes it was intrusive but useful. Now what does it do? None of that. Now it spies on me to better target me with ads and can convert units, pffft. It's a complete flop as voice search on Dish. And it's not the first Google product to flop. Google Home had a huge failure recently because the Google nerds didn't plan for power outages.

First of all, I'm not defending GA. I'm acknowledging it's potential. It actually does all of that. I set reminders daily. I dictate my shopping list. I ask it to make calls and send messages. I wake up and tell it Good Morning and it gives me the weather, my calendar and messages, then reads the news and sports headlines.

At night I tell it Good Night and it silences my ringers and notifications until my alarm goes off. There are unlimited other things I can program it to do with simple phrases. I'm mesmerised by the possibilities

And yes, it spies on me, also, which is why I said that I'm not a fan, because of the fact that it's so intrusive, not in knowing our lives, but targeting and sharing our lives.

Every new or growing technology has flaws and failures in it's developmental stages, BTW

You never answered my question, if you have a vested interest, because even as you deny defending it, you defend it. And if it still does all that stuff it's news to me because it doesn't for me. I have to install Keep for a shopping list but then it gets confused and tells me I have to install an app every time. Sometimes G Pay brings up store cards and sometimes doesn't. It no longer reminds me of appointments without prompting. Much like GA on dish doesn't work most of the time.

I've never used shopping list with my Google home but I just told it to add milk to my shopping list and it created a list called "shopping" and added milk to it. No idea what you're doing wrong.

Like dare2be said, that's how I do it and I have no vested interest in it, BTW. I warn my customer's about connecting GA on their Hoopers to their Google account
One thing I do have is the advanced GA on my phone - the Pixel 4 XL which has Android 10 so maybe you are using an older version

I have no vested interest in Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, or Apple Siri. I use all three of them. They control the Lutron Caseta lights throughout my house. They keep track of my schedule and give me reminders. They provide music throughout my house. I have 33 devices that Alexa can control. Google Assistant can control 25 devices. Apple Home Kit can control 16 devices.
Google Assistant on my two Hopper3 and Joey 3 receivers works well with my lights, displays my schedule well, controls my Hopper receivers (pause, resume, channel, DVR, etc.). Searches for programs do not always work but I wonder if the problem is with the Guide meta data that Tribune is supplying to Dish. Although the Dish Guide has flaws the Guide provided by Gracenote for my Sony TV’s has lost all of the stations in Dayton and Columbus since the repack in October. I emailed Gracenote and they claim they send quarterly updates to Sony so the Sony Guide may be wrong for a while.
Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa are both intrusive since that is how they fund themselves. I don’t mind the fact that they can see my schedule, program preferences, even my Fitbit steps and weight. In fact Alexa has learned my preferences. When I ask Alexa to set a musical wake up alarm she wakes me to Christian music. What I won’t do is add Digital Locks or add my Garage Door opener to Alexa, Google, or Apple Home Kit since I value my security and fear hackers.

GA has been around a lot longer than Android 10, a lot longer. Everytime a GA failure is posted you rush in with reassurances like it's your job and basically blow off complaints like they aren't real. So at some level you have a vested interest. Someone previously claimed Dish GA won't work with certain ISPs and/or won't work over Wi-Fi, well if that's true then it's broken. That is not a defense. It's voice search, it should be intuitive, it should work over WiFi, it should work with common phrases. And frankly I don't care if it has to do with guide data. My checks go to Dish, no one else, at least for now.

GA is not Dish. You don't have to use GA on Dish. You don't have to use voice commands on Dish. They are 2 separate options that do not affect the basic operation of Dish equipment or programming.
Also, if you don't have Android 10 or the advanced GA, then you have no dog in this fight. You're trying to watch 4K TV with an old B&W Television, basically.
TBH, I think you're complaining just to complain. That's my opinion. I've told you THREE times I have nothing to do with Google or GA other than my own personal use.
What part don't you understand?

I thought that was the whole purpose of this thread. They are not "2 separate options". If you want to use voice commands on DISH, you have to use GA. Maybe I missed something.

You're cherry picking that sentence. They are 2 separate options that do not affect the basic operations of the Dish equipment or Programming and if all the guy is going to do is complain about the Voice Controls, then don't use them. At this point, it looks like he's searching for things to complain about, Everything he's tried to point out has been "debunked" by other posters and secondly, at this point, he's not even complaining about GA on the Hopper, he's just griping about GA in general

Sorry, I didn't think I was cherry picking, just quoting you. I'm not siding with the guy, I think he should just not use GA on the Hopper if he doesn't like it. That's what I've chosen, but I do miss having voice commands for my receiver.

When I try to use voice commands, it requires me to use GA. So, they are not separate options. They are as one. Should it work differently?

Here we go again, keep telling me you don't have a vested interest as you defend it like it's your job, lol. The question is why are you working so hard to discredit complaints about GA? I'm a customer complaining about a new feature not being reliable. You haven't provided me any solutions so you aren't here to help. Who are you and why are you attacking me?

I have "solved" every problem you came up with. I or someone else have proven you wrong, every time. I'm not attacking you, I'm responding to you and if you accuse me of having a "vested" interest in GA again, I'm flagging your posts for Mods to see how you're trolling me in here.

Link to these solutions. You can't because they don't exist and you aren't helping, you are attacking. If you don't want to be accused then lay off me and stop discrediting my posts. The thread needs moderation for sure but you are the one out of line.

I don’t think anyone gets to say “stop discrediting my posts”, and be taken seriously. There has been multiple solutions to your issues above. Scroll up... you’re a customer complaining about something not working the way you want it to. That doesn’t necessarily mean it is not working. Your best solution would be to either just cancel and find something you feel is better, or stop using the feature since it makes you miserable.

Mine said it can't find it on Dish, which may mean it's not schedule to air in the next 9 days, but it gave me the generic and YT results
This was a response to the last example I gave, notice that Hipcat couldn't get it to work either. I found it by searching manually, it was airing that same day. The only solution was manual search. Of all the examples I posted, only one was solved by using different search terms and I acknowledged that. If any others were solved, other than don't use voice search, I missed it.

Cool! You're right and the rest of us are wrong. We can't really get most of the things to work that you can't (Groovy! You got me on Charlie Brown). I hope this helps you sleep better at night!

And it's HipKat, not Cat

How about if you have nothing useful or helpful you lay off the ad hominem attacks. You're not the victim and you lied about having provided solutions. You're not even posting on topic. Even better, put me on ignore or just ignore the thread if it triggers you. As for the rest of us, the rest of us are posting amicably and on topic.
