I HATE Google Assistant

Really upset that the Google Assistant has replaced the former voice search. I searched for “Flipping Exes” and was offered directions to a business in Carmel Indiana, and got zero results for any tv shows.

So this “enhancement” now forces me to say “TV show” every time I search. I know it’s first world problems, but it worked great before and now it doesn’t.

There’s no way to disable it. At a minimum, they need to offer the option to only search for TV shows.

According to other Dish site it can be disabled by removing permissions - but then looks like you have no voice search.

"To disable this feature press and hold the mic button, then say "Stop sending data". This should disable all voice features. If you do press the mic button again afterwards there should be an option listed to disable voice that you can choose."

I got the google assistant update on my H3. I asked it for the weather forecast, so it muted the tv audio and told me the weather, but after it was done it never turned the tv audio back on. The only way to restore audio is to power down the H3 a few minutes until the green light goes out then power up again. I guess it still has a few kinks to work out.

Mine is working better now that it's been active for a few weeks. Set up neighbors today & theirs has glitches too so I think time will help work out the kinks. Remember, it's Dish software - always works better after a few days.

When I asked mine, it just showed a pop-up on screen with the Weather info.....

Try turning off Dolby Digital then ask todays weather.

The old school weather app on my phone works flawlessly.

I tried it while watching tv and it worked !

Using my 54 remote I use GA to get the Dish apps to come up. I have to be careful to says Dish Apps. Many times the GA hears Dish App and I get on Demand stuff. I am not a fan yet. I might go back to the 40 remote and just push the blue button.

I haven't got over how useless Alexa is to try the Google voice. Also do not use my 54 remote, but Love my Harmony 650.

I gather you mean Alexa doesn’t do much for Hopper control.

We certainly find Alexa very useful for other things.

If you are not enjoying the Google Assistant integration to the voice remote, you can use just the regular voice commands by not logging into your Google account. You do still need to accept Google's terms and conditions to use the voice feature.

The old voice search system was pretty good, now its useless. No way Im using Google (I don't use gmail or any of their services). My Hopper 3 gets more and more useless each month it seems. Dish can't find the time or effort to make Netflix or Youtube actually *work* on their devices, but they can find the time and effort to pull this crap. What a joke.

1 more year and Im out of my contract and Im done with Dish and going cordless. I spend more time with Roku anyway so I won't be missing much anyway. Thanks for nothing Dish.

Do you blame Chevy if your Pioneer Stereo stops working in your car? Dish doesn't "build" the Netflix and Youtube apps. Netflix and Youtube do

When the voice remote launched, it sucked... pretty much a lot of the extras at launch sucked(Carbon UI)... give it time, and it will work great. Let it adapt to the people. It is a growth, but it’s needs time to develop.

One thing is that it's connected to my Online Account, that were the British voice comes from since I was trying to make Alexa pissed. So a lot of what it does is probably based on your personal Google account and what info is in it.

I thought I'd do a video to show you and in prepping for it, all kinds weird stuff happened. First time it cut off the program audio as it does when it's going to talk. I got Youtube suggestion, no dish. But no talking and could only break the silence by pressing the "Back" button. I tried the topic and got text listings that I couldn't do anything with for local Lawn Services. Used the Words "Lawn Care". Tried it again and got the same thing. Again, got Youtube videos and she said after a long pause: "Here's what I found on Youtube".

So just trying to set up a sample it proved very inconsistent. Thought I'd try the "Refer a Friend" they do on TV and get an instant return. After a long, long while I got the RaF page. I tried right after the update to "RaF" and nothing would come up. This is just plain dish ("NutZ!").

If Dish cant offer a proper working Youtube/Netflix app then they shouldn't bother advertising it in the first place. So yes, I will blame Dish for promises it cant keep. Its been just over a year since I "upgraded" to a Hopper 3 and its app capabilities suck. Im better off with a Roku/Apple TV at this point, and with my NAS I'll torrent the rest. The voice app worked fine for me, but Im not going to create a new account or agree to any Google this or that nonsense. Dish/Google can get f**ked with that frankly. Like I said 1 more year and Im out. 15 years with Dish at this point, and frankly upgrading to Hopper 3 from my 722k was a bad call on my part.
