The PlayStation Vue Thread

They recently used that as the platform to fill out the phone feature-set of their GSuite enterprise offering, and also used a lot of the background infrastructure to launch Project Fi.

I think YoutubeTV has a future because every product launch has been highlighting targeted marketing as a key benefit to putting live TV on the Internet. If there is any player in a good position to actually implement that system, it’s Alphabet with Youtube. They already have the marketplace established with regular Youtube to effectively sell ads, they just need the content producer contracts to bend so they can make the pivot. The loss leader for YoutubeTV is the DVR, but if you look at how they’ve structured their package they are focusing on channels that people tend to watch live. (News, sports)

Some people freak out about targeted ads, but I’m willing to keep an open mind if it stops the constant barrage of catheter ads.

I was taken aback a little at first when I started getting recommendations on regular YouTube related to shows I was watching on YouTube TV, but I prefer the synergy and targeted recommendations within both apps to the alternative—only having the popular stuff that the kids are watching pushed. I'm really not interested in Beyoncé's latest whatever. Though, it might get worrisome if I continue to see the same pharma ads over and over after months or years of YouTube/Alphabet collecting, compiling, crunching, and selling my data. What are they trying to tell me? lol

That is generally advisable when it comes to any new service or product Sony introduces. Sony has a poor track record of failures due in part to poor marketing and support. My paperweight of a PS Vita is just one example.

Yeah, the have a pretty poor history of introducing concepts and then not executing. Cross-play, cross-buy (massively eclipsed by Microsoft's Play Anywhere), PS+/Instang game collection (Xbox Game Pass, EA's offerings, etc), the handheld gaming market (nuff said), game streaming (PS Now), and now Vue.

That 500K customer base is a total fiction. I follow both the PlayStation Vue and YouTube TV groups on Facebook, and from the hundreds, if not thousands, of posts and comments about switching services I've seen in the past few weeks, there aren't very many holdouts with PS Vue at this point. The majority of those remaining seem to mainly be sticking it out because of the NFL season and the NFL Network. In the process, they seem to be dealing with a higher rate of glitches and other problems with the service.

I follow those too and would agree. I'm staying to the end. For NFL Network, Redzone, and the SportsPack, which gets me NBC Sports Chicago, which I can't get from any other streaming provider. Also, My wife needs to catch up on everything she has on her DVR. But, we've not had any of the issues that people have reported. I've already started my YTTV, but watch more on PSVUe than I do on YTTV right now.

fuboTV may not be a good fit for you for a number of reasons, but for the record they DO appear to have NBC Sports Chicago (put in a Chicago zip code on this page to confirm).

Are all channels in HD. This maybe where I might go if my Dish contract negotiations don't go well next month.
As far as I've seen if the channel is available in HD fuboTV delivers it in HD. The Viacom diginets like BET Soul, MTV U, etc. are in SD, but from what I've read they come that way from the source.

There was a pretty good write up in The Streamable yesterday explaining possible reasons behind PS Vue's failure, which goes beyond the basic "bad name choice." There's actually a good reason they didn't change the name to Sony Vue: all marketing would have to be run through Sony HQ in Japan. The article also talks about the extra hassles of creating a Sony ID, a more complex process than most of the other services.
