Heh. Really don't want to spend any more money than I have to just to get HBOMax for free. If I were a gamer, it would be another matter entirely. The thing that I liked about the Chromecast is I only have to buy one because it is easy to move from TV to TV. I've been all over looking for info. I have HBO through DirecTV. I have a Samsung 7000 series 4K HDR. I went into the apps to look for MAX, but only NOW was listed to download. I've read that it's the same, just not an upgraded name. I'm old school; I like shows/movies on a BIG screen. I don't understand watching a movie on my 5" X 2.5" phone, unless it's the only option.
What should I be doing to get MAX onto my apps list on my Samsung?

Is your TV on the list of compatible models?
For the same price as adding HBO on YoutubeTV you get HBO and Max by just adding Max. For whatever reason these are both individual offers, probably change at some point to reduce confusion.
HBO Max on YouTubeTV gets me access to HBO's Max site as well as the HBO live channels and some on demand content in the YoutubeTV app (pictured below):
With Amazon it was just the HBO channels and a selection of on demand stuff.

Well, how about that. I guess not. I don't see any 60" JS7000 models on ANY of the lists for some reason.
It's only a few years old and has tons of features, but not compatible with HBO MAX?
Thanks for explaining. Right now, I have HBO via Amazon through the 18th. I have HBOMax via my AT&T Gigabit Internet for free, but I don't currently have a way to watch any HBO content on my TVs once my Amazon subscription goes away. At least not until AT&T signs a deal with Roku or Amazon (Firestick). I have been considering how to address this without spending too much money (and eliminating the savings from the free HBOMax). I guess I could get HBO via YTTV for a week free at least.
It sucks that I cannot login to HBO Now with my HBOMax subscription.
After experiencing multiple annoyances unrelated to HBOMax just since I got home from work with both Firestick and Roku devices, I have decided to bite the bullet and get an NVIDIA Shield. I hope it is better than the cheaper devices I have been using. In the span of about 30 minutes, the following happned:
1. My Living Room Firestick 4K experienced frozen video while watching Disney+ which could only be fixed by pulling the power, and then it was very sluggish.
2. So, I switched to my 2018 Roku Ultra, which was sluggish, so I rebooted it, and checked for updates.
3. There were none, but it was faster after the reboot, so I launched Disney+ to continue watching what I had started on the Firestick. I was using the Roku app on my iPhone 11 Pro with Bluetooth speakers so as to not disturb my wife who works from home. I got several Private Listening errors, and then the Roku crashed and rebooted.
4. I went through this twice before switching back to the Firestick 4K, which seemed like it was going to hang again for a few seconds before it started playing normally.
Everything (other than my iPhone 11 Pro) is connected via Gigabit Ethernet and I have Gigabit FIber from AT&T. There is really no reason for any communication issues locally. These are software issues and possibly under-powered hardware. The Shield should solve the hardware issue. Hopefully the software is better too, given the price.

On FireTV Sticks, it helps to periodically clear the app cache on the apps you use. I don't think just rebooting takes care of it.
OK, I did that. Still seems sluggish, and video in Disney+ is laggy. Disney+ on the Roku Ultra is working fine as long as I don't try to use Private Listening.
A Factory Reset fixed the Firestick. By my count, this is the fifth factory reset on this particular device in less than 1 year. My other Firesticks have all required factory resets too, but not as frequently as this one, although this one gets used a lot more than the others. It wouldn't be that big a deal if I could backup my logins to the cloud, but it takes upwards of an hour to log back into everything once the reset is complete. I haven't had to do a Factory Reset on any of my Rokus, but they are still buggy from time to time.

That won’t matter much if ATT HBO and Amazon/Roku make a deal. Right now that is a big irritant considering that FireTV and Roku are so big in the streaming market. Hopefully they can come to a deal before HBO Go disappears.
The simplest way would be to do what they do with the ATT TV app. Your sign on determines what product and subscription level you are at with that app. IOW, you can be signed up for ATT TV or ATT TV Now and they both use the same app. The channels you get and the price you pay are tied to your user name/email and it is all transparent.
I'll have to try this when I get home. Thanks for posting. Hopefully it lasts longer than the last one.
