DISH retention offers

I am in your situation. Remains to be seen whether they offer me credits or not. But you are right - without the credits DISH is not even comparable, period. And Comcast is surprisingly competitive right now, so it's odd. And the Comcast package has the sports channels DISH does not. Comcast is now subsidizing it's TV with its internet options, for sure.

I concede the Hopper 3 is the best DVR in the business, and PTAT is great. These are the pluses, no doubt.

I have about a month left on my latest commitment from DISH and currently trying out the various competitors.

The reality for me is that Dish lacks value, no IFs about that. I’m sorry that isn’t in accordance with the fanboys.

Comcast DVR and guide is absolute garbage

I saw you mentioned FuboTV as an alternative to Dish. With the recent addition of ESPN-Disney channels it has become a real competitor. I know there are folks that dislike IPTV as an alternative but my experiences have been very positive. If I watched countless hours of TV and had a lot of local recordings I guess my opinion would be different. I’ll be honest, most of my generational friends do not have traditional TV subscriptions. My empirical assessment is that the subscription model is heavily supported by an older demographic.

Longtime Dish sub here, just spoke with Office of the President and they were unable to offer me any long-term credit. It appears that the days of loyalty offers are coming to a head. To be honest, Dish has priced itself out of the market from a value added perspective. True, the Hopper hardware is a differentiator but that's about it. If I had better internet, I would have already dropped my Dish subscription long ago. Streaming services are also going up as well, but are still a better value with the portability and multi-stream opportunities.
What number did you call? 1-888-496-1260 ?I find it hard to believe they have changed policies between August 31st and today.I got 25 bucks off per month for a year.Is a year not a "long term"?

I did, even sent an email to Executive Customer Service (executivecustomerservice@dish.com). I’ve received these loyalty offers in the past, maybe I’ve reached my limit? FWIW, the Office of the President was of no help either.

Qualification varies based on your account, so not all customers will qualify for the same deal.

Instead of an email, try sending a postcard to their address:
9601 South Meridian Boulevard
Englewood, CO 80112

If you write to them by snail mail, then they take your complaints more seriously, and they will call you back. They still may not actually be able to offer you a deal, but at least you will make sure that you actually get their attention. Years ago, I had a problem with their billing system somehow taking away a grandfathered DVR fee discount. I sent a postcard to that address, explaining the issue, and they were not only able to get those credits put back on my account, they also gave me more credits on top of that. So, it doesn't hurt to write.

Don’t forget, it also depends upon certain other, unknown factors, such as which way the wind is blowing, who had burnt toast for breakfast and did somebody get bit by the computer that morning.

I say this based on reports of someone with stellar credit, a large monthly bill and long association with Dish reporting getting no deal, while someone less qualified getting an offer at about the same time.

They still make post cards?

I printed my own. They still make perforated post card paper that you can feed through a printer. In my case, I printed everything out on a post card because I was so ticked with Dish, I wanted everybody who handled the post card to be able to read how they had treated me. This was after multiple attempts at calling to get the issue fixed, through multiple levels of customer support reps (supervisor, Loyalty, etc.) and even online chat, with no results from any of those attempts. Not even DIRT (through Dish's own forum, which has since been shut down) could help. The post card caught their attention and got them to finally fix the issue.

So I called loyalty yesterday to renew my Mother's discount.Turned out she got a 2 year $15 off per month deal a year ago-I should have read the bill better! They gave her another $20 off (one time) just for my trouble calling in.Guess it pays to be virtuous!(haha-that's a joke ).
Also I have a 622 so I asked the gentleman(don't recall name) some questions about the Duo.He answered them all promptly without reading a script.Impressed.(not joking).

So my email to corporate customer service resulted in a pretty immediate phone call. Unfortunately, the only offer that was given was the new customer promotion ($15/off), which requires a new 2-year commitment. I politely said thanks but no thanks.

Does anyone have an account old enough that they're still billed through AT&T? Any luck on retention deals?

We also have the old VIP722K and VIP612. The OTA tuner in the 722K is buggy as hell. How is OTA on the Hopper if we wanted to drop locals to save the $12/month? Can we move recordings to the Hopper? Will the Guide data remain the same?

Would our equipment fee go up if we switched to a comparable Hopper setup? We currently pay $17/month for both DVRs (HD DVR Receiver: $10.00 & Loyal Customer DVR (reg $15): $7.00).

The equipment fees would depend on how many TV's you want hooked up with independent viewing. If you currently use your two DVR's for only two TV's, then a bare minimum setup of a Hopper Duo and one Joey would cost you the same monthly amount you pay now. $10 Hopper Duo DVR fee + $7 Joey fee. As an alternative, if you want a completely separate DVR for the second TV, you could use a Wally instead of a Joey, which would also be the same monthly fee. For the Wally, you would need to add an external hard drive for DVR functionality. Existing recordings can be transferred from your ViP DVR's to an external hard drive. Those recordings can then be transferred to the Hopper Duo, or the Hopper Duo can play them back directly from the external hard drive without needing to transfer them again. Any external hard drive recordings from the ViP DVR's (or from the Hopper Duo) would not work with the Wally, though.

Just got off the phone with Dish Loyalty and renewed my Preferred Customer agreement for another 2yr. commitment.
I have the Top 250+
Hopper 3 and one joey
The rep offered me $25.00 off
and $5.00 off the Dish Movie pack for 6 months.
He said to call back in 6 months and get it renewed. I do that anyway.
Edit: I have been a Dish customer for 13 yrs.
My only other option is Direct TV, no thanks.
Streaming maybe but we have DSL with CLink at 10 mbps, so that is not reliable. Also, it is my only internet option. We had satellite internet with Dish back in the day. I think it was called Blue Mountain ?? It wasn't bad at first but the longer we had it the slower it got. Rain was also a factor. DSL was not offered to us at that time, only landline.
